A corvette won't melt in the rain. The owner, not so sure. Drove it home after buying it in the dark and rain. Have driven it several times in the rain. When I get the car back, I drive it whether it rains or may rain or shine. I just turn it to "Weather" mode.
Been rained on a number of times, and some light hail one other time. No problemo..
Don't think I have ever had hail but with the rain, you just take it through a wash cycle and life is good. I'd be more worried about driving it in the winter where there is salt on the ground or more accurately, a little asphalt under the salt layers. That is much harder to get the salt off even with a short undercarriage wash.
^^^ Yes, not completely clear Aklim - there was rain with the hail^^^
The point I was trying to make is that with our Corvette flexible body panels, the panels can survive light hail strikes. I don't like to get caught in rain and particularly rain and hail, but sometimes it happens. I don't freak out over it.
I am so thankful that I never have to deal with the salt issue other members have to deal with.

Cleaning it after driving in the rain is a PITA. Road grime gets everywhere. I don't ride my Harley in the rain for similar reasons.
The first week I owned my '14 I drive it in the rain, sun, night, and the snow. I also drive it on gravel roads, dirt roads, and muddy roads. A couple years later I got caught in some hail.
On a separate, but related issue I drove my '05 Vert on the beach and over the Rockies in a blizzard. I don't recommend the latter.

8 don't ride the HD when I had one or the wife's trike because I don't like to ride wet or have other cars splash me. When I see a car about to pass me, I brace myself for the splash. The HD or the wife's Spyder is harder to clean since I have to get out the pressure washer and soap. The cars are easy. Today, I rode the C7 in the rain. Tomorrow, car wash on the way home when it is dried up. If it is dust, I use the touchless, if it is grime, I use the soft brushes. Wife's car and the F250, I wash as often as I can since I paid for 1 wash a day package.
Place she goes to is always muddy and dusty and the F250 sees winter duty so salt is an issue. F250 also gets used to haul my toys which also gets it dirty so daily wash package is cheaper.
No problem driving my Z in the rain. I do try to avoid driving it in the rain since it is my so called toy, and enjoy driving it top down on those sunny days
