the plan is to wash it Wednesday
Prep it Friday
Spray it Sat/Sunday
Finishing touches like remove the rear bumper and install a new spoiler etc Monday
Koi Orange and dip armor going on Saturday hopefully
why plastidip it?
to change to a cooler color.
It’s fun.
It protects the paint underneath
I’ve done it before and want a new color
i enjoy modding my cars
way cheaper than a paint job which I don’t have the skill or equipment to do myself
Hank asked some questions on my old thread. They closed my old thread and said was a duplicate so I couldn’t answer
Hank-Please don’t be offended by this but I just don’t understand the Plastidip trend. I go back to when Plastidip first came out and it was for coating pliers and tool handles etc.
me-yeah it has evolved a lot over the years. Like paint. It wasn’t nearly as good when it first came out as it is today.
Everyone likes what they like and whatever they want to do to their car is just fine by me but I do have some questions.
Do people still wash their Plastidipped cars?
me-Yes. Mine has clear coat and ceramic coating on it
If so is it hard to dry?
me-no. It is easy. Also looks clean way longer as it is satin vs gloss.
I’m guessing that waxing and claying are out of the question as would be a California Duster?
me-I use every car detailing product as my other cars except polish/abrasives
I suppose a Plastidipped car would be more resistant to door dings and rock chips? I
me-am not sure about that but it does protect the paint underneath it too
What I liked about the previous green plastidip body was the way the light reflected off the finish..
Instead of having a regular paint where the background reflected back a mirror image to the viewer, the satin green finish obliterated the background reflection. This accented the beautiful body lines of the C7 with varying strengths of shadows.
I'm way too old and lazy to do a plastidip to my Corvette, but I can sure appreciate the transformation it brings to the Corvette body.
today I have a busy day. Martial arts testing at my academy first, then golf, then and anniversary dinner. After that I’ll do the lower rear bumper in black (all other trim is already black) then I’ll spray the orange and the clear coat Sunday (the current plan)
