Default Factory battery maintainer question

A couple months ago I bought a 2016 Stingray from a dealer. The car was optioned with a battery charger option, however the charger wasn’t available with the car. I bought one from a private individual that was never used. My question has to do with the red tip on the end that goes in to the charging socket in the trunk. When I unplug it, the red end stays in the socket. It’s easy to remove but concerns me when I use it over the winter as to it falling out. It seems to be secure enough but I want to be sure this isn’t a factory defect.

I use the factory maintainer on my car and when I disconnect the maintainer from the socket, the red tip comes with it. IMO the red tip should not stay in the socket but rather come out with the rest of the tip.

The red plastic has a bayonet lock.
1/4 turn clockwise to fix.
