I just purchased a 2015 Z51 M7 with 6k miles from my father; what a wonderful car! Unfortunately, I just noticed a crack on the windshield that wasn't there last time I used it. It's completely smooth, doesn't feel at all like broken glass. Anybody have this happen before? Should I get the windshield replaced? Thanks for your insight!
Thanks for your thoughts Ramets! The top had never been removed during my Dad's 9 years of ownership; I took it off immediately. I wonder if that had something to do with it?
We have a much smaller crack in precisely the same area on our 2016 rag top. We recall similar cracks reported on C7 convertibles; and assumed it had something to do with the raising/lowering of the top. Apparently not...
Ours has been there a while but is not (presently) large enough to notice without close inspection.
There have been a number of posts of cracks like that. As others have said, check your insurance. Mine replaced the windshield on my C5, due to a large chip, at no cost to me.
I noticed a small amount of delamination on the upper passenger corner on my '16. Instead of dealing with the windshield replacement, when I had the car PPF'd last summer the installer applied a small strip of vinyl across the top. If the issue goes beyond that strip I'll have the windshield replaced.
I had a similar, but much smaller (4") crack develop on my 2014 Z51 a few months after I bought it. It is in upper left corner and cannot be seen from inside as the inside window trim covers it. The outer is glass is definitely NOT cracked; it is smooth. Either the inner glass or just the interlayer has split /cracked. I believe it was structural. Since it is not a result of an accident, I do not believe insurance will cover, I'm leaving it for now.
