It's not the worst install I've ever done, but it is involved. Lots of removal process, mostly the center console and several cable/connectors need to be taken out the way. Go slow and be patient and anyone can do it. You do have to have the needed tools of course. Screw drivers, ratchet and sockets. Like mentioned above there are several videos on the forum and at MGW site showing the process. It's worth the work...

Entire install can be done from the driver's seat. No lifting of the car or screwing around underneath is required.
There are very good videos on youtube that take you step by step on the entire install process. I did it in an afternoon with my wife assisting. Following the video as we installed the shifter. Few basic hand tools needed. I recall that i did need to buy a specific screw driver bit that i did not have in my toolkit.
OK, so what's so great about it? Its appearance or what?
Smoother shifting, less shifting travel. Here is a picture comparing OEM (left) with the MGW (right). The OEM version looks and feels cheap, simple stamped steal. On the other hand the MGW looks and feels like a solid piece of machinery. Milled from a solid block of aluminum. I read somewhere that the EOM design dates back to the C5 generation. If I won the lottery and upgraded my 2019 GS to a 2019 ZR1, for sure it would be a manual and upgrading to the MGW shifter would be first on my list to do’s.

Torx T-20 needed for shift **** removal and Torx T40 needed for the shifter box.
