Default Tweeter Removal

Since I couldn't find a good set of steps, here is how to remove the front tweeters. Follow these steps in order, and its actually pretty easy. Follow them out of order (like I did) and its more difficult and frustrating.

1. Remove the lower door trim piece. There are 7 clips to pry carefully. As you can see, I broke one. UGH.

2. After you get those pieces off, you need to remove the sun visor. There are 3 - T15 Screws behind a panel that flips down. After removing the screws, disconnect the wiring plug and set your visor aside. Then unscrew the visor snap near the mirror (no clue what that's called). That is a silver T15 screw. Set that aside.

3. Now, pull the upper horizontal trim towards the back of the car to remove the snaps. The center piece does NOT need to be completely removed. Just loosen the area where the center piece overlaps the pillar trim. Once that is loose, pull the pillar trim away from the frame perpendicular to the holes shown below.

4. Now, slide the pillar trim the direction of the length of the pillar. It will pull out of the dash area where the tweeter is. Once it slides up then you should be able to manipulate it out easily. Disconnect the microphone cable.

5. Now pop up the tweeter grill. there are 2 clips. Then disconnect the tweeter by squeezing the tab.

6. Remove the tweeter from the grill. They are in there pretty tight and took some messing around (or I wasnt doing it right). But I got them out by prying back on the tabs.

That's it!

The passenger side is identical to the driver's side minus the microphone connection.

Todd

Has anyone already come up with any clever ways to mount a new 1" tweeter (that doesn't fit in the existing hole)? I am planning on 3D scanning and designing something custom unless I can find some options that have already worked for others.

Trimmed back the original speaker mount and then epoxy the new tweeter. Doesnt look "pretty" but nobody can see it and it works great!
