One of the usb in the center console will play a memory stick , I think it's the one on the passenger side of the center console , I use mine all the time . I have a 2016. R
2014/2015 SD card slot in the center console and 3 USB ports can be used for music / media. The SD card / thumb drive must be formatted FAT32 or NTFS. Music file formats are as stated in Post #7 above.
(SD cards in the 2015+ glove box for PDR must be formatted FAT / FAT32. SD cards larger than 32 gb can be formatted FAT32 with a third party utility - Windows will not format larger devices FAT32. A 32GB SD card will hold 11+ hours of recordings)
FWIW my ipod also works plugged directly into one of the usb ports in the center console. It also works in the single behind the infotainment screen. 2014
I just when thru this on my 2019 Z51. If you have a CD player and a USB port on computer you can swap CD's to USB and plug in to USB port on your Vette. First put CD to download in CD drive when CD comes up stop it from playing. Open settings and find windows accessories, open then open windows media player. Media player will pull up and lists (shows) the disk and songs on cd. In tool bar clip rip CD Rip automatically sets to correct MP3 files and ripping will start. When complete open explorer and copy to Music on main menu. Once copied in explorer menu tool bar highlight copy list to usb drive. Use a 32 GB or bigger as the format is already set for MP3 recordings. When place in the car radio will list or play album by name, artist, or song, or select song at random.
What else are you going to do with all those left over CD's from the 80's. Look it up on Youtube
I still buy CDs, and I rip (that's the computer term) them to my computer, every CD as soon as I buy it gets ripped. I have USB sticks in all my cars. You need to be formatted FAT32 generally for them to work (and on larger sticks you usually need to use Rufus to do that). Some cars (including the C7) support NTFS, but others don't so I stick to FAT32 (some support exFAT but C7 does not).
I have 676 Albums ripped (per iTunes some are double albums so its like 750 CDs). I actually spent like a week back in 2007 ripping my entire collection and that was 180 albums (probably closer to 200 CDs) at the time. It was the second time I ripped those 180 as I had originally ripped them at 64 Kbps and then switched to 256 Kbps (I still don't use lossless, I know, its inferior don't care not re-ripping the entire collection and I want everything the same quality).
So I'm sorta the expert on organizing and playing music from USBs in your car. I have a 142 playlists and yes you can use voice commands to play them.
I even have a batch file to update my USB sticks when I buy new music. I use iTunes Export to export my playlists to M3U files from iTunes.
Thanks for reply.
I have a portable radio with a CD player. Using this portable radio I can load CD's onto flash drive USB. I plug into USB port in Vett but nothing plays.
I'm not much into computers so my knowledge is very limited.
Based on what I'm doing any help would be good.
Thank Doug

That's not going to work. Assumption is that the CD Player is not formatting the drive correctly, maybe its not even copying the tracks over with the right file structure, or really even and tag info (I think MP3s will play with out ID3Tag info but the experience is sub par).
You need to do this on a computer and you need to know how to organize your music and add tags. You can't expect one device to just "make it work" this is not (sadly) how computers work. You either invest significant time in understanding and mastering a specific task or you just don't do it.
Thanks for reply
You are right. I really don't know what I am doing and I'll stop and and get some help.
But what confuses me is I can use the same portable radio and load cds onto flash drives and they
work just fine in my Ram truck
Bottom line is I'll need some help
Thanks Doug

Newer systems are perhaps more forgiving. They support things like exFAT and perhaps aren't as stringent on the structure of the USB.
C7 is one of the first systems to support playing off of a USB stick from GM. I don't remember if the Chevy MyLink version 1 did (in like the 2010 Equinox). I know one of the earliest to support USB was Chrysler (UConnect back in 2008 supported it) and Ford Sync Gen 1, which might even be older. But GM was late to the game and our Corvette systems are still quite finicky on this.
I honestly used to keep an old iPod Touch (and before that an iPod) connected via USB because early systems had better support for that.
Let me help out on this one, as I recently went through this myself. The tech specs in the manual are correct, but they omitted one critical point.
If you are trying to use a SanDisk usb flash drive for music, it will not work in your C7. I tried all kinds of troubleshooting to get multiple SanDisk usb flash drives to work on my C7, before I found an obscure post on this point.
Here's the solution: Use a 32GB (or smaller) usb flash drive from any other manufacturer (i.e. not SanDisk).
I purchased a PNY 32GB Attache 4 usb 2.0 flash drive and it instantly worked when plugged into any of my C7s 3 usb ports. I copied my music library to the PNY usb flash drive using a basic artist/album folder structure, with my music in mp3 format. The more modern usb 3.0 flash drives may work too, but I can't confirm. Either way, 32 GB usb flash drives are super inexpensive.
It was a huge relief when this quick and easy fix solved this problem for me. I hope it works for you too.
I use a ScanDisk 8 GB thumb drive formatted NTFS with almost 8 GB of music, which I transferred to it from my iTunes library, and it works just fine. I have it plugged into the USB port behind the infotainment screen and access it via the media selection on the infotainment screen. I also tried a ScanDisk 64 GB with the same iTunes library on it for the heck of it, and it also works fine in the C7 also.
At the risk of hi-jacking this thread can I ask a slightly different question? I have a 2019 GS and I am trying to use Apple CarPlay on my new iPhone 16. I find it only works with the USB port behind the infotainment screen. Is that correct? It won't work with the center console USB ports? Thanks in advance
All 3 ports are the same. Can you charge from console ports? I believe all 3 ports come from the hub under the console.

Strange, I can only get CarPlay on the one behind the screen and sometimes not even on that one. I'll go back and check the settings. I know the phone automatically connects via Bluetooth, but I read above that automatically disconnects when CarPlay is present?
Android Auto (and Carplay?) need more bandwidth than Bluetooth can provide. So - cable connect on our vettes or wireless wi-fi on newer cars. I'm not surprised that bluetooth disconnects when you have Carplay.
Typical phone issue troubleshooting: Double check phone settings and car settings. Unpair the phone and reboot. Repair the phone. Try different cables and verify the phone will at least charge with the cable and all 3 USB ports. Try another phone.
No issues with my 2019 and Android Auto - plugged into one of the console USB ports. Also no issue with wireless Android Auto in other cars without changing any settings when I go from car to car.
I was using a thumb drive in mine behind the screen for music...suddenly it quit working. Moved it to console...works fine. Is there a separate fuse for the port behind the screen?

Not sure what year you have, but some of those wires in behind the screen area have been known to fail. Lots of posts on them, especially the raising and lowering screen. I keep my fingers crossed on my 15, not an easy fix .
Thanks for getting back. My car is a 2014 Convertible Base. Yesterday...it worked fine. Today, I touched the Media button on the screen and nothing came up. After several tries, I moved it to one of the console ports and it woks fine. The screen is working fine. Thanks again. 2014 Base, 6A w/paddles, Performance Exhaust, 2LT. Cyber Grey Metallic with Kalahari Top and Interior. Upgraded Radio and Nav modules to have Android Auto on screen.
OK...here is my official update on updating to Android Auto on a 2014 C7. It can be done with late (2016-2019) modules. You will retain all your driving functions...but you will loose the ability to customize them from the center screen menu.
I went to Infotainment near Orland today and their staff tried 4: different Modules with out success.
Bottom line: you can upgrade to Android Auto/Apple Car Play and retain center screen Driving Mode Menus on a 2015 and newer...but not a 2014. I am witness to this and was inside Infotainment's Headquarters for 3 hours today...it will not work on a 2014 but you can get the Android/Apple functions and it works well. I don't know what makes a '14 different but it doesn't work!!
