------------------------- The original OP has a 2014 C7, but my suggestion works great for all C7s...
For the money, I'd suggest buying an iPad with cellular. Use it for Waze and Google Maps. You can even surf the internet when stuck in traffic. Cost: 8th gen = $230. 9th gen = $345... all prices on Amazon. 10th gen will cost about $550. The earlier models will work just fine. This provides a nice, portable way that continually gets updated. And, there's no fear of GM discontinuing nav updates or that an attempt to update will make your system inoperative, or "brick your radio." Its a user-friendly and less expensive way to have navigation in your Corvette. It's what I use in my 2019 C7 GS.
Any pictures of how you mount and use the ipad in the car?

so where do you park the ipad that it doesn't become a missile in a quick stop??
On my 2015 Z06 I just mount my phone in a Pro clip phone holder and run Waze on that. Galaxy S21 screen is pretty good sized. Works fine for me. I've seen these videos and don't feel like ripping all those parts out. Especially when my phone does the job just fine (stream music via Bluetooth). The Pro Clip holds it up pretty high and easy to see. It's nice to not have to plug in that clumsy USB cable like I did on my 2019 Grand Sport. I run Android Auto on my daily driver via Bluetooth. Going from one car to the other is not bad at all. I was surprized.

Really? Do you think the iPad will become a missile in a sudden stop?
Resting against the radio, it's probably not a problem in a sudden stop. Momentum would carry it forward... I'd be more concerned about unsecured items resting in the cargo area because these would be more of a missile threat compared to the iPad in a sudden stop.
I'm trying to address the problem mentioned in the original post. If you don't like the idea of a convenient, multi-function, up-to-date geographic database, and less expensive alternative to the OEM nav system, don't use an iPad. "Don't shoot the messenger."
I appreciate that it's frustrating that GM does not provide a current nav update.
I'm just suggesting a solution that works for me AND that will not jeopardize turning your nav system and radio "into a brick." (to quote another CF posting.) if a GM update fails.

It is not the sudden stop that is the problem. It is getting rear ended at speed that should be thought about. Remember, Newton's Law.
I cringe whenever I see someone with their License Plate on the dashboard. I remember one time I saw a traffic accident (rear ended, O/P did not hit the brakes, and tookoff ] where the License Plate put a dent in the roof of the car.

I rest it on the center console. It can be moved more toward the left and it sits more securely in front of the shifter, directly in front of the radio.
Nice big screen, using the 10" ipad... much easier to see the Google Maps route or Waze, compared to the dash nav screen. And you can use the voice feature of Google Maps, too.
Perfect? No, but has a lot of advantages and it works great for me.

Very lucky driver!

With all due respect, that's not a safe arrangement in a rear-end accident. It's also not practical for those of us with M7s.

You'd think that with the advent of the EFB for IPad use in the cockpit, someone would have come up with a device to securely attach an IPad to the dash or console of an automobile. Definitely something for the C7 where your pic shows it that could securely attach to that handle we have for the passenger.

My wife wouldn't be able to grab the "oh ****" handle with the pad in that location.

In a sudden frontal impact, the iPad energy will be dissipated by throwing the iPad forward and then upwards along the passenger grab bar. If the top left corner happens to catch under the top lip of the IP then it may start spinning as well and once it hits the next thing in its path it may deflect anywhere inside the car. Sudden braking will generate several Gs of force (limited by tire grip) while even low-speed 20 mph impacts will generate well over 20 Gs of force that has to be dissipated. It doesn't take a high speed to have high impact forces. I have never been in a car frontal impact but have sat in a seat belt convincer (seat slides about 2 ft downhill to a sudden stop) that simulated a 7 mph impact. That impact left me with bruises across my chest where the 3-point belt restrained my forward movement when the sliding seat came to a dead stop.
