So, to be very clear...hearing the actuator every time I unlock my door ISN'T normal?? I'm not talking about a faint noise, I'm talking about an easily heard noise from 10 feet away
I think hearing it from a distance isn’t normal but it does cycle a lot and probably why they crap out…..
mine won’t now….
I would buy the arm assembly if someone has one just so I have the option to make it factory….
If someone has this issue, if you wiggle the fuel door while hitting the button, it has a good chance of opening. It might take a few tries but should work.
Great advise, to those of us who've decided not to plug the plunger hole. I plugged mine years ago.👍

This will solve the issue,
but if wiggle/tap doesn't work with low fuel indication, i guess you wait for the tow truck or leave the vehicle??
why i tried to gas up at 1/2 tank before i did the scrivet!!
When my 2017 was new I had that happen at the gas station. I had no idea why it was not opening. Fortunately after cyling the keyfob lock and unlock a few times it opened. After that for a couple of years I had no issues. Then reading on the forum that the issue was somewhat common. I placed a scrivet in the hole and don't worry. I can hear the acuator working and it sounds just like before I put the Scrivet in. No difference other than the door always will open. Peace of mind.
Or just remove the actuator and rod at home. It's a 15 minute job....13 minutes longer than the scrivet . If you're a track guy, yank it out when you swap tires or brakes. If you're a lawn-chair/car show type, do it when you're cleaning the fender liners.
You can see the old actuator from mine in the pics below. I also bought the new assembly (which is the only way GM sells it) for something like $50 as well. If I ever put the car back to stock and sell it, everything will work as intended since people get worked up over even minor stuff that doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
