Default Need Help: Photo

2019 GS battery died while at movies. Flat bedded to dealer. Drivers window half way down, so I put garbage bag (blue paint tap) over open window for 2 nights and 1 day. "Ghost" on paint just below window in photo where plastic rested on to top of door. (This was not where blue painters tape was) Thoughts on if and how to buff this out, what polishing compound/creme should I use, etc. Not sure if plastic from bag lifted clear coat or what.

Note on C7 batteries. I am original owner and car has been on factor battery tender since day one and always garaged. Mechanic at dealer said 5 years is about the limit for them. YIKES Guess I need to get one of those high amp jump start kits to carry at all times. Any recommendations?
Thanks for any suggestions

Certainly looks like tape residue?? PO do anything to it? Does it feel sticky to the touch or is it ghosted into the paint?

If it's sticky or stands proud, I'd start with a Goo Gone, then a decent wax, then a polish, then a compound progressively until the least aggressive product removes it. Meguiers is great stuff for the $$ and available at walmart. If this works, work backwards in the process from where you started, compound - polish - wax.

If that is ghosted into the paint, I'd seek out a reputable and professional detailer. They might be able to improve it, but may require a repaint.

Norco jump start packs is the best I have found, I carry one in each of my C7. I always buy the highest amp unit in case I have to use it, then the unit has plenty of juice left in it in case I forget to charge it. These are available on Amazon, not cheap, but good stuff will not be cheap.

I have been using the factory battery tender since I bought my car 6 years ago and it works just fine. Check the FS section in the C7 area as they come up for sale ofte .

Not from tape, plastic just resting on the sill. Not sticky and cannot feel it. Think I will try a cleaner/polisher and hand rub. Thoughts

Just bought a GooLoo 5000 amp for around $100. I've had a GooLoo 1500 amp for several years, but it is a bit light for the C7. I've used the 1500 a couple times and it works well.

REMINDER: verify that the metal key unlocks your hatch / trunk and that the 3 manual door releases work!

I don't know where you live but if you are near Burnt Hills, NY PM me and I'll take care of it. I have all of the necessary tools and supplies. Since it is a small area I would go to an auto parts store that sells Maguires products (or any reputable brand) and ask for a finishing polish (I don't use Maguire's so I don't know which polish it is). If you have an orbital polisher or know someone that does you should be able to remove it with a soft white foam pad and the finishing polish. Make sure the area is clean (you don't want to create scratches by rubbing in dirt) and then clean the area with alcohol. If you can't get an orbital, use a soft microfiber pad and the polishing compound by hand, then buff off the residue and repeat as necessary. After it is gone, use whatever protectant, ceramic or wax that you normally use. I have a small Adam's 2" cordless polisher that would be perfect. I expect the marks will come off easily. Good luck.

Even if this doesn't work, it is a miracle polish. A must have in your polishing kit. It does take some elbow grease.

I just tried the key to open the back hatch and it worked just fine. This is a mechanical key lock and will work with or without battery power. 2014.

Thanks George L for the offer. Unfortunately I am 1200 miles south of you.
I am using Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and a small orbital polisher and it's coming off.
thanks to all for the input, and I'll be buying a high amp portable battery charger.
