Back in the day, a cigarette lighter plug in caused me issues. Battery died fast. Today I don't see that as a problem if you get a quality charger and not something from the gas station. Same thing if you charge it with a wall adapter. Some no name charging unit from the gas station, I wouldn't.
While I have no issue yet, I can't speak to more than a year. I do a lot of stuff that kills the battery. Frequent tip up and run it dry, etc. I upgrade every year so it is someone else's problem.

by plugging the usb cable from the phone into the vehicle usb, there's no quality charger involved....it's 12v into a phone requiring 5v!!
would anyone know if having the nav update done by white auto will it still retain the hud directions and cluster directions ?
It may vary by MY and exactly what's updated (i.e., software and/or hardware), but the (software) update and unlock I had done on my 2019 retained all original functionality.
You have to send the unit to him or how does this work?
It depends on the year of your car. Best thing to do is go to the WAMS website and read the info there. You can also contact them for more info if needed.
Your profile states yours is a '16 like mine. There are a few different possibilities for '16 based on the RPOs listed on the sticker in your car. The website explains it very well.

I run AA through a Motorola M1 wireless dongle in 2 cars including the Vette.
I have no abnormal battery issues with my phone. I could run AA almost all day on a business trip and still no need to charge my battery before the end of the day.
Can I ask where you keep your wireless dongle? I'm looking at this one and wondering if it works through the USB port behind the screen.
Motorola MA1 android auto dongle works great in the console or behind the screen.
It works but there are no settings so there is no tweaking if it isn't just right. I have that one. AA Wireless seems to be just a bit better after the settings tweaking.

Since mine was AA/ACP OEM retrofitted into a 2015, the USB port in the center console was retrofitted with the faster USB port outfitted in the newer models.
I can only use mine in the center console in my case. It works perfect.
I believe 16+ all had the high speed USBs behind the screen as well.
Did WAMS on my 16 with the AA Wireless behind the screen.. works perfect.
If you go the dealer route I found the 16s have a VIN range and if your VIN isnt there dealer wont touch won't upgade to AA, not sure what the deal is there exactly and also on checking local dealers they wanted 500 and up which made WAMS much more appealing.
my WAMS experience is a bit different. I went with WAMS because of the comments on here about them. I have a 15 and everything worked as it should before installing their reprogrammed radio and hmi. Everything works as it should except, I have no back up camera grid lines, no menu option to turn them on and off and the back up camera does not turn off when shifting out of reverse, just goes to a blue screen. Touch any button on the panel and it goes to that selection such as touch the radio button and radio screen appears. Contacted WAMS about this and they wanted me to take the car to a dealer and have it troubleshot to determine the cause. Called dealer Corvette tech and he said check what, I agreed with his reasoning about it and decided that was not the best thing to do. WAMS danced around the issue until I decided to give up. The problem is that you cant talk to anyone and its all through email. Thinking of contacting MVI and see if they can help.

I have a 2016 that had now been to the dealer 3 times for the update... I even bought the service bulleting... mine has the I05 raido option... they didnt do the USB thumbdrive part and gave me a too bad so sad.... so highly unlikely i will be going to them for work in the future.... so from what I'm seeing I should just send my HMI in for programming? anyone else have a similar story? im debating on just losing the PDR functions and spending 1800 on the kenwood setup with the adaptors... i really didnt want to tear apart the dash on this nice car.
