This is just a reminder to everyone here on the Forum to stay vigilant when trying to buy anything here. Please pay attention to e-mail addresses, requests for money or anything out of the ordinary. If I had not been paying attention or rushed into a payment today, I would have been scammed. Scammers are just the lowest form of life...period.

Hopefully if you run into a scammer or spammer, you utilize the Report Post or Report Message feature and notify a Moderator or Administrator so it can be investigated and the member banned if appropriate.
Yes. Make sure that whoever is messaging you about an item for sale, is the actual seller. Scammers will jump on a thread telling you to take it to text messages as if they were the seller.
Always pay attention to the listing seller's ID when communicating.
I also stay away from brand new members that have less than 25 posts and are trying to sell a high dollar item.
If they don't haggle with you and the transaction is easy, something could be wrong. Either you are asking too little and someone is trying to snap it up (your fault) or they are trying to reduce your thinking time. Kinda like a salesman that tells you "You walk out that door and this price goes.". At which point you do something stupid and before you realize it, the money is gone.
I had someone offer to buy my whole lot of unrelated parts for what I wanted. Next day cashier's check too. How cool was that? Check would be for more than I asked for and I could keep some of it and wire the rest to a specified account. I couldn't resist that so I accepted the offer. Sure enough, Fedex came next day. Check looked good, paper was right and all that. Unfortunately, I had to tell the seller the check got rained on (not a cloud in the sky) and was wet and destroyed. No problem. Next day, another check came. What were the odds? The exact same check right down to the number. At this point, I figured it wasn't worth the amusement anymore so I ended it. He wasted his time and 2 Fedex from some Middle Eastern country so I am calling it a win.
I entertained an offer like this for a Craigslist item. I knew it was a scam, I would get these offers after posting a new item on Craigslist, even got one on a free posting, plus I always put NO SHIPPING in the add. I was never going to complete the deal, I just really wanted to know how it works.
What I found out about this scam is that these creeps use stolen checking account numbers. The name on the certified check that was sent via FedEx to us was from some non-profit in another state. I called the company and asked why they were wanting to buy a parachute. They were very surprised to say the least. I gave the check, envelope, and the info I found to the police, but I surmise nothing was ever done.
As far as the scam goes, you can deposit the certified check, even have the bank verify it and it comes back as good. You complete your end of the deal, then after a few weeks, the company that the check is drawn on catches the fraud. Then you get the bad news that your bank has withdrawn the funds, plus probably a penalty for depositing a stolen check. Just say NO.
