Default C7 Side Mirror Problem

I have a '16 Stingray Z51, 2LT. My problem is that when I put the car in reverse, the side mirrors deflect downward to see the ground. That would be fine, except that when I shift into neutral of drive, they NEVER return to the position(s) where I had set them, even though I reset the memory to include their proper position(s).

My dealer has told me that this is a known problem to Chevrolet and that a service bulletin was published about it. Their fix? "Show the customer how to reset the mirrors to the correct position". No amount of resetting the memory has helped, so please don't suggest that unless you have some reason to believe I've been doing it wrong.

What I'd like to know is, is there any way to disable the mirror function which makes them deflect downward when shifting into reverse? I have not found it in the owner's manual.

I know this isn't a huge problem, and I've been resetting those mirrors every time after backing up for a couple of years now (since I obtained the car - I'm the 2nd owner), but it's an annoyance and one I'd very much like to cure.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

PS. I did a search of the forum before posting this and got no results. Perhaps I'm not very good at these searches. If thee is a prior thread on this, please just direct me to it if you can. Thanks.

Not sure about the 2016 MY but, according to pg 45 in my '19 Owner's Manual, Reverse Tilt Mirror functionality can be adjusted via Vehicle Personalization...

Vehicle Personalization begins on pg 128, but Reverse Tilt Mirror adjustment is described on pg 131...

Great question! I also have a '16 Z51 so I have to commend you on your choice.

Grab your 2016 owner's manual and turn to page 131 and find the "Vehicle Personalization" section. The section describes how to work your way through the menu to change settings to your liking. I believe you will want to choose "vehicle" then "comfort and convenience" then "reverse tilt mirror".
The mirror setting that you will be interested in is on page 134 on the bottom left side of the page and is titled "Reverse Tilt Mirror". You can turn the reverse tilt mirror feature off when you find this menu option.
Hope this helps.

Pretty sure that if you put the mirror adjustment switch in the middle between left and right, no mirror will tilt.

Thank you all for your quick responses. I found the section in my manual and will try it today. It just never occurred to me to search "Reverse Tilt Mirror", though I searched at least 10 other iterations of "mirror" without finding that.

I never knew this option existed. It must be off on mine (3LZ).

Norton is correct. Turn that feature off in the vehicle personalization option. Mine did the same thing pointing my mirror to the ground in Rev till I turned it off.

I don't find this feature very useful because they don't tilt enough to see the curb.

Like Corvettezman said, if you put the mirror selection switch in the middle, the mirrors will not tilt.

I do not have that feature enabled on my car - just did not find it very useful.

i find it very useful in getting squared up on the parking space lines, both right/left side, then i use the b u camera!!

both sides lower to where i've set them when in reverse, both return to memory setting when out of reverse!!

1LT doesn't get them, but on other cars that had them this is how they work. Standard.

The downward deflection of the mirrors when shifting into reverse is a feature designed for better visibility. Unfortunately, there isn't a straightforward way to disable it through the settings in the car's manual. Since the dealer mentioned it's a known issue, they may not have a permanent solution, but it’s worth asking if they can reprogram the feature to prevent it. If resetting the memory positions doesn’t work, you might want to consider checking with Corvette forums for any other solutions or aftermarket options.

Our car is a 2017 2LT that has the downward tilt mirror when shifted into reverse. That feature can be disabled in one of the menus, it's something like "Reverse tilt mirror- On/Off".
I used the feature a few times after we bought the car, but turned it off pretty soon.

Ah, the infamous C7 mirror dance - I've wrestled with this exact frustration on my '15 Z51! That 'feature' drove me so nuts I nearly considered duct-taping the mirrors in place. Here's what I learned after two dealer visits and some creative troubleshooting:

The Root Cause (And Why Resets Don't Stick)

The mirror positioning module gets confused between the "tilt memory" and "normal memory" positions. Even when you reset, the car's BCM (Body Control Module) often defaults back to its factory tilt programming.

Workarounds That Actually Work

  1. Disable Reverse Tilt Entirely:
    • Put car in RUN (engine off)
    • Shift to Reverse
    • Adjust mirrors to your preferred position (not the tilt position)
    • Hold SET button + Memory 1/2 for 3 seconds
    • This often overrides the tilt memory completely
  2. The Nuclear Option:
    • Disconnect battery for 30 minutes to force BCM reset
    • Re-pair memory settings before using reverse
  3. Permanent Fix:
    • Some forum members have had success with a $15 aftermarket module (MirrorFix) that intercepts the tilt signal
Pro Tip: If you're tracking how much time this mirror-resetting wastes (I logged 8 hours over 3 months), <!--td {border: 1px solid #cccccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->Calculadora helps quantify the annoyance for warranty claims.

Ever notice if it's worse in cold weather? My system glitches most when it's below 40°F - makes me wonder about a sensor issue.

I've gone round and round with the issue on my '15. My work-around fix was to disable the tilt signals by cutting the associated pin on the actuator. I'm fairly confident the root cause lies with the memory seat module not retaining the firmware setting.

Just hit the memory button and it will return to what is set in memory 1 or memory 2 depending on which one you push.

Well, that may be the case when all systems are working properly. Mine did reset and save even with the dealership trying it. I even replaced the memory seat module to no avail.

I never knew I could turn this off, or maybe I did and forgot it. Mostly it annoys me, maybe I'll go turn it off next time I'm in the car (if I remember).
