Default Battery Tender question

I know this is a stupid question and it’s probably been answered here before but I can’t find it. I set up my battery tender, left the hatch cracked open for the cord, and the trunk lights won’t turn off. What am I missing?

How long did you wait?
From the manual and it working on my car.

Battery Power Protection
This vehicle has a feature to help
prevent the battery from being
drained in case any of the following
lamps are left on: vanity mirror
lamps, cargo lamps, reading lamps,
or glove box lamps. If any of these
lamps are left on, they will
automatically time-out after about
10 minutes. To reset it, all of the
above lamps must be turned off or
the ignition turned on.

It is supposed to turn off after a few minutes. Personally I just close the lid on the cord and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems at all..

I plug it in and just lower the back hatch until it's just sitting on the cord. I don't totally close the hatch, just set it. The light goes out after a few minutes.

I close the hatch. No problems after 8 years doing so.

I do the same. The car will automatically shut down the courtesy lights after about ten minutes or so. No need to worry unless your lights do not go out after a 10-15 minute timeframe.

The other plus about this method is if you happen to forget to unplug the Tender, the alarm will let you know the back hatch is open when you start the car.

Make sure there is plenty of slack in the cord inside and close the lid. No biggie.

I have a 2016, so, I drop it to the point , just before the automatic closure operates. I have never timed it and the light does turn off.

Lay the hatch down softly on the cord & you are good to go

After 10 minutes it will shut off. If it’s still on after 15 -20 minutes there’s an issue

If your lights don't turn off after 10 minutes, something is wrong. I have been using my battery tender since 2016. I let the auto closure feature shut the trunk on the cord and have not noticed any problems.

Same for me. Its safe to close the hatch on the cord. That's what I do.
