Hello
I have a question or 2 about the pressure cap on the coolant tank. I've noticed that after the coolant reaches normal temp, and I shut the car off, coolant puddle forms under the right side behind the front tire. It's not a lot, just enough to form a small puddle. I also noticed that the heater alternated between blowing hot and cool air. I looked at the coolant reservoir and saw it was empty. So, II removed the cap to add coolant. When I did this, and yes, I know I shouldn't do this with a warm engine, there was no pressure relief from the cap, no coolant blew out. It was just like a "normal" cap being removed with a cold engine. Could the coolant cap have gone bad, which would cause coolant to leak out the overflow when warm / hot? And could this be why there is no pressure on the cap when I take it off? And, finally, could the lack of system pressure cause the heater to run warm air, then cool air?

On both my 15 and 17 Z06 after shut down the pressure cap would leak a very small amount of coolant.
I then replaced the o-rings which took care of the problem !
I'm A Director of Maintenance, and we have all kinds of o-ring kits in the shop. I'll check to see if I have the right size and change it, otherwise I'll just buy a new pressure cap. Thanks
Actually yes. My water temp normally stays around 220, and I've noticed that sine the minor leak started it doesn't any higher the about 170 - 180 or so. It never leaks a lot, just enough to form a small puddle. And once it cools down, no leakage.
If the new cap doesn't work, take a hard look at the heater hose where it enters the block. There's a black plastic fitting that will crack and leave a small spot on the garage floor behind the rt front tire. Very hard to get eyes on it. If thats leaking you will have to replace the entire hose assembly.
