Default 2014 engine temp running hot.

Hey guys I'm a new corvette owner and love it so far. The issue I'm having is the engine and coolant temps seem to be much too high. Driving on the highway I'm getting between 230 and 245 degrees. Also, the oil temperature is reading 0, so I'm assuming I need to replace the oil temp sensor.

I've been looking online and I'm finding no oil temp sensors, only coolant temp sensors. Idk if I'm just not looking in the right places or what, but if someone can link me to one I'd appreciate it greatly. Also, with the engine running at such high temps, what would the likely culprits be?

I'm not driving like a maniac, it's usually sitting at 230 when I'm cruising and RPMs are 1.5 to 2, when I accelerate is when it goes up to 240 and 245, then back down to mid 230s once I'm back to cruising. Outside temps are between 50 and 75, so not extreme or anything. Would this be a thermostat issue? I've been reading forum posts and I see that the 2014s have some thermostat issues, so I'm leaning towards that, but I'd appreciate some extra opinions. Let me know if you need any more info

As in another forum the 2014's have a problem with the fan control module which is in the fan. Replace it with a Z06 fan and it will correct the problem. Don't know about the oil temp??

Actually I believe if you change your bad thermostat this will fix all your problems.

Make sure you use a genuine GM one of the correct temp for your car.

This is a well known issue.

So if it is the fan control module all I would need to replace is the fan, not the entire fan "system"? I'm not sure how the fans work exactly. Do you know what temp the fans are supposed to turn on, because the fan is the first thing I noticed. I was wondering why tf my car sounded like a jet engine, and that's what led me to it running hot. As of now when I turn my car off the fans run for another 30 seconds to a minute, but then turn off. Idk if this is info that confirms or denies the fan issue, which is why im saying all of this.

I've been seeing a lot about the bad thermostats. Wouldn't it be better to use an aftermarket one considering the genuine GM ones are the ones that are causing these issues?

To locate official GM parts for your 2014 Corvette, you can input the VIN into https://parts.gmparts.com/. From there, it can show you what parts will fit your Corvette and locate the nearest facility that has them in stock. For follow up questions, you can visit your local Chevrolet dealership or parts retailer. As they are the experts, they can provide additional expertise.

I have a 2014. If the fan is running when it is hot, probably not a fan issue. You can get a GM thermostat for better prices than the dealer. The 2014 is a 207* thermostat, $60 not to bad. Be sure to check the spec for the thermostat,,,,,,, MANY try to sell you the wrong temp spec. Part number 15-11125G
Part number
15-11113 is the wrong one.

I've read that other people are running 180-195 degree thermostats. Should I go with those, or should I go with the 207 like it was designed for?

Now that the engine is cold I'm going to go check the coolant levels, if those are normal then over to autozone I go. They have a 207 in stock, and I'm going to pick up some coolant as well since I've been reading that it's normal to lose some during the replacement process.

2015 and on it is a 194 degree thermostat. Usually the fail open and running temps are lower than normal. I think I got mine from Rock Auto.

Many people like to make up stuff and think they know better than the engineers. I have a new 207* thermostat in my car and never have a problem. 20*F up to 100*F outside temp. If you race your car maybe the cooler thermostat works better. All the cooler thermostat does is slow the warm up of the engine. Every thing I read says it is important to get the engine to proper operating temp before getting on it.

Rock Auto is the best place to buy an OEM GM thermostat.

Personally I wouldn't like to run mine at 230* regularly. Mine (2016 Z06) came with a 186*. I was replaced by the dealership with a much hotter unit when I had the required flush done. The dealership ended up putting in several thermostats and never did come up with the 186*. So I ended up putting in a 174* Katech. I am happy with that. It warms up fine and the car runs (highway temps) between 174* and 200* depending on ambient temps.

My 2014 runs right at 220° regularly. It will on occasion jump to 230° - 250° for a few seconds, then drop back to 220°. This may happen very few 15-20 minutes (or more, as I'm not watching the gauge 100% of the time).
I have changed both the thermostat & ECT sensor. Neither of which made any difference. So, it might something with the fan. I'm planning on doing a coolant flush within the next few months. Pending those results, I'll look into any possible fan related issues.

That's pretty warm in the Bay Area. It sounds like you swapped one 220* thermostat for another 220* thermostat. I'd be more tempted to use a 195* or something similar. But that's just me.

As far as I know, the one I replacement was the original (car only had 29k miles on it, when I made the changes, currently at 31.5K). I replaced it with a 194°F thermostat. It made no difference to the temp reading My previous C6 (LS3) ran at 195°F on the freeway, and around 205° - 210° around town. So seeing this one run at 220°, seems a bit high, but that is where it runs most of the time.

Any where close to 175* is WAY to cool for highway driving. If you are talking about "coolant" temp. Mine is steady at 220* indicated coolant temp. Don't forget, just because the gauge is reading 220* doesn't mean the rest of the engine is at 220*. It's a reading at one spot on the engine, every type of engine is different.

I have heard about the fan problem too and the swap to a Z06 fan seems to cure the problem. But sounds like the thermostat could also be a problem. On occasion my cooling fans will continue to run after the car is turned off but from what I have heard that is not an unusual thing to happen. Now if it runs for an extended period of time, it would probably be best to have it looked at.

Just bought one from rock auto, 15-11125G was the one I got. It should be here sometime tomorrow. I'll update once I test it out. Should be one or two days from now.

It's also running about 175* or a little warmer on oil temp. That's about 10* cooler than the stock thermostat in my car. I'm not sure that I'd consider 10* as WAY too cool.

The stock/original thermostat for the 2016 Corvette is a 194* thermostat.
