Warranty expired for my C7 last summer, so I am using Amsoil 0w-40 Signature. Been using Amsoil in my other cars and I notice the oil is cleaner during changes.
Just curious.....why does everyone think the supercar oil is so superior or the only good oil for our cars? You do know it's only a marketing name right.

I do believe, after a lot of research, that the 0w-40 is a very good product.
But, do I really need it, and is it worth spending 2x+ the price?
Not for me in mild temp SoCal. 5w-30 major brand full synthetic changed regularly works very well.
Yes...you speak the truth, I agree but it seemed as if because it was a 0w-xx that it was better for everyone, which is incorrect.0w is for cold temperature start up. An oil can be made to have low temp fluidity by dumbbell blending with different base oil viscosities, by using a base oil that has a high viscosity index or by adding a viscosity index improver. Any oil company can make it. It's the specs that are associated with the 40 part of the 0w40 that means quality. and the additives too. If you are racing or changing you oil very often like racers do then you only want viscosity and anti-wear additives. if you have a car that you are not racing or changing your oil often then you will need a fully formulated oil for overall performance. The supercar oil is one of those, but there are many others as well.
For a garage queen 2017 Stingray I owned for 5 1/2 years, Mobil-1 full synthetic in the 5w30 viscosity was more than adequate. When my wife had a 2019 Stingray (also a garage queen), hers called for the 0w40 viscosity.............even though they were essentially the same car with the same engine, etc. I don't even remember the 0w40 existing until the 2019 cars came to market. I can see the advantage if you track the car. (If I recall correctly, owners of older Corvettes were supposed to swap out the oil with 15w50 for track usage and then go back to the regular 5w30 for regular driving.)
5w30 can be purchased nearly anywhere and Mobil-1 has a few different formulas that will work in a C7. Look for the "Dexos" emblem on the front of the jug or bottle. The 0w40 can be tricky, though, because they sell a "Euro" formula, a turbodiesel formula and the other one (again, look for the Dexos emblem) that is suitable for a Corvette.
There are generally fewer topis on this forum that elicit more comments than those pertaining to motor oil. I suppose that a similar result would be asking people about their favorite brand of gasoline.
