I will be storing my Vette in an Arizona garage until October. There are many great posts regarding long therm storage such as fuel treatment, tires etc pressure and battery maintained. I have a specific question. I ordered a Noco Genius 5 charger. Should I use the adapter to plug charger into the cigarette socket above the battery, or is it safer to use the alligator clamps directly to the battery. Second, if I use the socket, should I still remove the styrofoam cover over the battery to avoid any gas buildup.
Some recommend removing the battery or just disconnect it. I prefer not but can.
Any thoughts appreciated. I may be over thinking this.
I just plug mine into the cigarette receptacle above the battery, thats in winter up here, not sure about heated area like that. 1/2 an answerr for ya.
I’ve been plugging mine in the receptacle hatch area for almost 7 years without no issues. I never removed the plastic foam insert or disturbed anything in the battery compartment. So far have never had any issues. I also lightly just close the hatch (not all the way to pinch the wire) and the light will go off in about 10 minutes or so. Then I cry for almost 6 months 😭 lol live not far from Chicago
This has to be a joke. Summer here is the perfect time to drive a vette. The tires are sticky enough to practice 0 to 60 runs or launches. Or just driving
The battery charger can lose connection with the socket in the trunk, gradually allowing the battery to die. Dealer replaced the charger under warranty, it still loses connection occasionally. People think the problem is with the socket. If you can view the charger lights in the car every few days, all ok. If not, hmmm...
To Gearhead Jim. Your reply has convinced me to us the alligator clamps. I’m going to be gone 5 months so won’t be checking it. Maybe just disconnecting the negative terminal would be best overall. I do worry about the Arizona heat, but I would like to avoid pulling it out and putting in the house. Thanks Jim
