Is anyone aware of another airbag which will fit the C7 steering wheel but are single stage?
I have a Z06 and a Comp wheel here which I've picked up cheaply for the interest of having a slightly smaller diameter wheel in my C5. However, I only want to proceed with the conversion if I can have a functional airbag - safety on a street car remaining paramount.
I welcome suggestions or thoughts on airbags to take a look at.
I am not an expert, but I think if you don't install airbags compatible with you year's vette, the system is going to throw codes. I think the colors of the connectors on the back of the air bags have to match the originals and if they don't that is a tell tale sign you are going to run into trouble.

That is my intent: to find a C5-compatible bag which will fit.

I am wondering if a like-generation airbag from a Tahoe might work. The center wheel seems more compact than the broad C5 wheel. I'm not going to blindly roll the dice and collect bags for hundreds of dollars each though. I'll have to work on getting measurements in time.
Good luck finding an airbag that will work. The C7 steering wheel will look good in your C5.
Thanks. I would probably opt for the Z06 one and swap the dark bezel over. I grabbed the Comp one simply because it was 90% off compared to the usual cost and I wanted to see about the suede. The maintenance factor and the feel does not lend itself to a primarily street car though so I may sell it off at some point.... or turn it to garage wall art.
I can resolve everything needed so far with exception of the airbag.
