Default Code help with P0711

Hello all this is my first post mainly due to mixed responses across forms for context I’ve never had any issues with my 2015 corvette stingray and my mechanic checked all fluids about 12k miles ago and said there good, I was driving back and forth from Vegas visiting family in the hospital which is approx 100mi each way and it ran fine did this about 3-4 times no issues, I took my car to work approx 20mi still no issues but when I got off and started it the CEL turned on for P0700 and P0711 I cleared it after learning it was from the tans temp sensor as my trans temp gauge doesn’t go any higher than barely over 100 and drove it approx 60-80 miles some at 40 most in the 75-90 area and never got any harsh shifts or anything that seemed irregular the light hasn’t come back and the code is sitting in the stored codes area, now here’s my question I was supposed to take it about 230mi to phx airport, is it safe to do this or better to just park it?

Sorry I’m new to forums couldn’t find out how to reply and wouldn’t let me pm I saw your posts before and was hoping you’d be the one to reply lol😅 thank you I was just concerned I didn’t want it to go into limp or anything mid drive to phx so as long as it can make the drive I’m happy

Why not have the car looked at and clear up any issues that may be present before taking it on a 200 mile trip? If it turns out to just be a faulty sensor, that should be able to be replaced quickly

sadly it happened last minute right before I was taking the trip to where I couldn’t just pop into a dealership mainly because they charge outrageous prices out here cause I’m a small town, and my private mechanic only works on Saturdays but I think I’m just gonna end up taking my gfs car

Welcome ! As long as thats the only code you have and the trans is shifting fine , you should be ok

As you can see I drove mine for awhile before it started to pop the code a lot and I knew I had to fix it as I had a fear that I would pop a code and just assume that it was my temp sender but in reality it might be something more serious

Bring your code reader with you , that way if you do pop a code you can check and make sure it's the 711 code and just reset it

The TSB states to replace both harneses which costs a lot as you have to remove the valve body to replace the upper harness .

My findings were that the problem was only in the lower harness

For me , the dealer wanted a one hour diagnostic time charge , they wanted to replace both harness at list price and then I am not sure of how many labor hours they were charging for the install, plus the filter and fluid charges .... but the estimate was what I thought was excessive .... especially charging me diagnostic time as since I already had pictures of the code and theTSB in hand

I was able to source the part from an online GM dealer at a deep discount ...and I ended up doing it myself as I do have the tools , the know how and a Quick Jack

Some of the other who I have helped with this problem but did not have the tools or knowledge to replace the harness bought the harness and then approached their dealers and asked for a standard filter and fluid service but then asked if , while the transmission pan was down, could they install the lower harness for them . Most dealers agreed since it takes less than 10 minutes to swap out the harness ... so really the only cost was the part and the trans service.

If you have any more questions tag me in this thread as i will get a message that you taged me by typing @Dcasole

Good Luck 👍

Dave
