It's factory. It gets crimped to a ring connector on the negative battery lug. I believe the area I boxed in red shows where it was broken off. This is pretty common unfortunately.

The black wire is a sensing wire important for proper battery charging. Just connect it back to the negative (black) battery cable. Splice in a few inches of black wire to add some slack. The wire is most often broken during a battery change.

There is a reason the wire is BLACK. It's the devil wire.
Actually when you remove its insulation the cable was green/yellow. The same color code we use in Europe for ground on 220V. I was quite confused as its not a common color on cars and thought previous owner had his hands on that too
