Default FOB Programming Problem -- HELP!

For context:

I currently have a 2019 GS that I bought, only came with one FOB. I previously had a 2015 and have a FOB left from it that I want to reprogram to the new car, but have run into a problem.

I have read the how-to on the forum on programming keys and know that I have to do the "long version" since I only have 1 fob coded to the car. I started off by putting new batteries in both fobs before starting any of this. I have been through the process multiple times and here are the problems I run into:

1. When I get to the "Ready for remote 2" step the car doesn't recognize the old fob from the 2015, acts like no fob is inserted into the steering column
2. When I press and hold the "Engine start/stop" button for 12 sec to exit the programming mode I don't think it's exiting. Next time I get in the car it flashes "ready for remote #2" on the DIC and I have to hold the start/stop button for 12 sec to get the car to start. Once it's started it gives a "service theft deterrent system" pop up on the DIC.

Was there a change to the key fobs between 2015 and 2019 preventing me from using the old fob on the new car? Why isn't the car exiting the process?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You don't have a problem, you have an incompatible fob.

See chart:

Thanks, that explains my first problem.

What about the car not seeming to exit the programming mode?

Thanks

I believe there is a 10 minute wait step in the procedure.

There's are multiple 10 min wait steps in the process, all of which I followed. Now that I know my old fob is incompatible the only question is why I can't exit the programming mode, not sure how to interpret your answer...

Press Start/Stop button for 12 sec to exit programming.

11. To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 8–
10. When all additional
transmitters are programmed,
press and hold ENGINE
START/STOP for
approximately 12 seconds to
exit programming mode.

I do push the start /stop button for 12sec, but it doesn't exit programming mode. As explained in my original post.

Did you follow the manual or the document in C7 Gen |Sticky Threads | DIY | Tips called "Everything you wanted to know about your FOB's and RKE," There is a note about pulling the fob out of the slot and pressing unlock on each one.

Your exact situation is not in either procedure.

Also read the thread up in sticky threads. There are a couple posts on how to recover when the procedure fails. Post #6 may help - there may be others.

I have added fob #3 on C6 and 2 C7s. I used the short procedure...
