Hi, I am looking at buying my first Corvette and I have a couple of Z51s lined up to check out.
I live in the NY area, home of Grand Canyon sized pot holes and speed bumps (plus I live in a hilly area), I am a bit nervous about making a mess of the splitter (not to mention the under carriage, but that’s another iissue).
Apologies if I missed older threads on this, but recommendations would be appreciated.
Z51s have two lower air deflectors (black plastic, maybe 18" long and 4" deep) that hang down, one in front of each front wheel. They are horrible for scraping the road, curbs, or driveway entrances; making a helluva racket while doing so.
They are installed, I believe, for improved aerodynamics at high speeds (130mph or so).
I removed mine years ago and haven't missed them at all.
I would recommend under splitter protection such as Scrape Armor or something similar and wrap the splitter with paint protection film. And remember to angle your approach as needed.
I just installed a new splitter on my car and also installed Scrape Armor. The previous owner of this car had slight damage to the splitter and bought the new splitter and scrape armor, and was kind enough to include it when he sold me the car.
Before install, I did have the splitter PPF'd, so it has that protection for the front edge and top exposed sections. I scrape every time I exit my driveway, and it still makes me cringe, but the underside scrape armor is doing its job. There are less expensive options as well, like ProTEKt (about half the cost of Scrape Armor)
Just to make sure were all on the same page with splitter/air deflector names, Z51s came stock with the air deflector shown in front of the wheels below. The two deflectors did not meet and butt up against each other in the middle; there would be an approximate 2' gap between the two.
Here is the car with the deflectors removed and a Stage 1 splitter installed. The deflectors could have been left in place, but as I mentioned, they hung down and scraped the road, etc, quite often. The splitter on it's own hangs down less that the deflectors (I'd estimate 1-1/2", as opposed to 4").
Z51s did not come stock with the Stage 1 splitter; I don't know if it was an option that could have been factory-added. By any chance, do you have a photo of either of the Z51s you're looking at, or links to their sale, so we could see what splitter is in place?

I agree. With the car sitting so low, extra precautions when driving are needed.

When I put a Stage 1 poverty splitter on mine, I left the air dams in place for a warning scrape when backing out. I am not sure if they will work with the EOS Stage 2 I am installing this weekend.
No worries. I just replaced the OEM splitter on my 2019 GS last month. No one who owns a Vette is living in "poverty"! Most of the injuries to it were self-induced. Found a perfectly fitting Stage 1 OEM splitter on Ebay for $66.00. This splitter is made for easy replacement. No upgrades for me...

That's the one I have on mine right now. I am rolling the dice with a stage 2, and I know that. If something happens to it, I will put the stage 1 back on. I drive the C7 frequently, increasing the risk to the splitter.
I added a product called ProTEKt for the underside of my stage 3 front splitter. It's a skid plate that bolts to the underside of the front splitter.
Scrape Armor also makes a similar product. Google both of them. Pays for itself in no time.
I have ACS carbon fiber splitters. I put PPF on mine and it does a great job but does not protect the edges. Also added Cowle’s Door Protect molding to the edges to protect the carbon fiber from the inevitable scrapes. You can take it off if it gets scraped
and add a new strip and looks like new. Can get it at O’Riley’s.
