Have an 18 Grandsport w/ 36k miles on it. Both front rotors have a rust ring where roughly 25% of the rotor isn't being used. ive had the car 2 weeks and trying to fix the small issues it has. Last night removed both front wheels and installed new pads and hardware. Cleaned up the calipers and brake dust before reinstalling the wheels. Nothing looked out of place and didnt see any obvious reason why the pad wasnt making contact with the rotor.
Pictured below is the pads with plenty of life that were removed from both sides. Going to drive a few days with the new pads on to see if theyre making better contact but if they arent, maybe the issue is with the rotors themselves. Just find it odd that both fronts are doing it and in the same way.
Any thoughts? Thanks

It almost looks like the inner pads are dragging on the hat so the inner pad surface can't fully reach the rotor. Why it would do this on both is perplexing. I could see one caliper piston sticking, but not both in the same exact way. I thought maybe someone put the wrong pads on but they look to be OEM. I assume you cleaned up the pins. There does seem to be a lot of rust in the area. Either from driving in the elements or from washing.

I did. Installed new pins and cleaned both calipers well before installing new pads. Will see if these new pads make any difference while driving the next few days but im honestly stumped.
I found a pic of my 2019 Grand Sport pads I sold here. They have only about 1500 miles on them but they did wear evenly. There is no mark on the inner part from rubbing on the hat. Did you clean the rust off the inner rotors?
I agree w/ Zjoe6. Somehow a mismatch of pads and rotor. Could be a manufacturing defect in how the pad wear material was applied to the pad backing plate. I have seen this several times over the years . It is more common on aftermarket pads but even OE manufacturers change pads suppliers and you have this situation crop up. You can see on the pad a dark ring right at the inner edge where it is contacting the rotor or hat. You can see similar, although not as obvious on the rotor.
Did you, bed in, the new pads? Are you sure everything is OEM?
after installing my new pads last night I did bed them in. As far as knowing if everything is oem, that I have no clue as ive only had the car 2 weeks since buying it. Will continue to monitor and investigate.
