Default Getting Garage Floor Treated

I have a need for a little advice from those who have a treated garage floor. I am having my garage floor treated with a Polyaspartic coating. What do you use to keep the tires from discoloring the floor from the plasticizers in the rubber?

Process finally completed. I love the new floor. It makes the garage look cleaner and bigger!

I had a polyaspartic floor installed in my garage at a former home and it never discolored from anything over the 5+ years I was there. It really lived up to the hype. Is your concern based on something the installer said?

I have a polyaspartic floor with a blue tint and bit of textured grit and don't have any issue with discoloration from tires. If you're worried, I'd cut a few small squares of carpet to put under the tires. I keep a few small squares of plywood to put under jackstands to keep them from digging into the coating. That's the only preventative precaution I take with mine. Mop it every once in a while or after I get some oily fluids on it. Brake cleaner doesn't seem to hurt it.

Good info. We are getting ready to move into a new home and treating the garage floor is on the want-to-do list.

This.

I had my garage floors done this past December. I live on a dirt road and the cars track sand/mud in during the wet spring months, and snow/ice during the winter months. Other than using a wet floor mop from time to time, the floor looks brand new with no stains or discoloration. Hell, I even spilled about 2 quarts of transmission fluid on it changing the manual trans fluid in my Z06 and it wiped up easily, with no trace of any spill.

Maybe the contractor is just covering his back side with the discoloration discloser. That way any black stains won’t be covered by the warranty.

That is a big garage you have there. Looks long enough for a bus.

They call it a 5 car garage, but I bet I could get 6 in there!

Just adding my 2¢... had mine polyaspartic floor laid in almost 6 years ago... not a single issue... (just don't drop small hardware because it's very difficult to spot).

Dirty in the picture... but I did put PVC trim in for the wall to floor joins and caulked it all so I can spray it out... just too lazy do it lately.
