I rarely talk to people about their cars other than to say, nice car. Most people are busy, and I don't want to bother them. When I measure engagement, I measure by people saying "Nice Car". Rarely if ever do people actually have a conversation with me about the car, and if so its at a car show or similar event where that is expected.
Agreed. A car show entrant is there to support the vendor, show off his product or stroke his ego. Either way, they want to be asked questions or hear comments to improve the product or to segue into their pitch.
OTOH, maybe you can look at it this way. Many are attention ****** so you are actually doing them a favor by validating then. Me, I get assumed to be in the group and would welcome your consideration.
Here in Virginia, at least in this part of the Old Dominion, people are probably just a little friendlier. Other drivers wave at me in the rural area where I live whether I am in my Tundra or Stingray.
When the computer in my C4 was going bad, the engine would cut off while i was driving. This happened years ago on a two lane road near my house. It was a manual. The road was level and straight. So I started pushing the car at the A pillar to a nearby church parking lot. A gentleman in a pickup truck parked behind me and offered to help. I said i was almost at the church. So he put on his 4-way flashers and followed to protect me.
This would be less likely to happen in Northern Virginia, where I got a middle finger in my face because I did not park close enough to a gas pump.

Car shows here are mostly enthusiast based, so usually a bunch of people who just want to talk to each other about their cars. When I'm at the Woodward Dream Cruise and in the Performance/Classic Car Show at Memorial Park I expect people to talk to me about my car. I'm actually disappointed how few do. Corvette specific events I usually get much higher engagement.
Thank you for all the advise and feedback. I'm a proud owner of a 2019 Stingray 2LT in Long Island Red Tintcoat. It is a convertible (which I wanted). Bought it from a chevy dealer in Florida and drove it home over the weekend. It had 5500 miles on it. Car was sold by the same dealer new in 2019 and serviced regularly by the same dealer. One owner car. It looks and drives like a new car. So excited to have it. I have wanted a corvette for 20 years and finally got one.

Fantastic! A beautiful C7 and a great choice. Hope you enjoy many happy miles of smiles while driving it.
Look for a base Stringray with minimum owners and maximum documentation (and, I prefer manuals). Used cars are always risky, and performance/sports cars doubly so. Take someone with you to inspect any you might be interested in who knows cars... even if you do. 4-eyes can be better than two. Finally, take your time and don't buy into any seller pressure or hype. If you happen not to buy one and someone else does, there will be others. All the best.
