I tried reading old threads about batteries. AGM, Flooded Acid…. Seems like things have changed since I did it last.
56 months ago I replaced the OEM factory battery in my C7 Grand Sport battery with an AC Delco, Group 48, 42 month warranty type. Looks like it needs to get replaced based on some strange display lightning on a drive this evening. First no instrument lights, then they came on, went off…. I will test it in the morning with my Foxwell tester.
Should I stick with the flooded acid type that I now have? Is there a better choice now in 2025?
If you really want to get cute, they have probably got a lithium option. Not sure I want to spend the money for it myself but sure. I don't need the weight savings . I guess AGM it is.
I put a Walmart Everstart Platinum H6 AGM battery in my C7, fits perfectly. The Walmart battery has the longest warrantee compared to this same battery sold at higher prices with other brand labels on it (AC Delco, Diehard, Duralast, Interstate....). $179 with a 48 month prorated warrantee. 760CCA, 120 minute reserve capacity, 70AH. These batteries are all made by Interstate.
It even has the two built-in handles to make it easier to lower the battery into the C7 hole....
Costco has this H6 AGM Interstate branded battery for $169, but with only a 36 month prorated warrantee.

AFAIK, it ISN’T prorated. Straight 36 months. At least for the size 48
Interstate offers a LIMITED warranty 2025-3-15_IBWarranty_US_English.pdf which means that their warranty is worse than WALMARTS.
Autozone offers replacement warranty BUT you pay for it because the battery is 1.5x+ more expensive.
When I did my research on batteries, I figured out that most batteries come from the same manufacturer and the difference is the warranty. Walmart batteries are the best pound for pound battery/warranty that exists. (shocking, I know)

Please explain what the Walmart warranty covers that the limited warranty you mentioned does not. I've personally seen them replace a battery less than a week before warranty is up.
I get that there are a few companies making batteries. I understand the concept of "private labels" where 1 company can make EITHER THE SAME or VISUALLY SIMILAR products on the assembly line. What I don't know is how it is determined which way it is? Sure, the local McDonald's manager knows he gets his quarter pound burger from Sysco but does he know where it is sourced from? I've seen 2 units that are visually similar and from the same factory. Different internals.

Sure - Walmart's warranty offers about 6 more months of free replacement versus the interstate warranty. So while the interstate warranty is not terrible, it is not better than Walmart's. In addition, if you buy an interstate warranty from costco (like I did), the warranty is actually worse where they will pro-rate.

I replaced the 7 year old Napa batteries in my dad's pickup this week. The Duralast Gold replacements were only about 2/3rds the weight of the batteries they replaced. It will be interesting to see how well they perform long term.

GENTLY used, sure. Run it down , don't top it off, run it down, jump it and drive short distances, I'm going to say the extra lead is gooder to have.
I get it that the old school lead acid worked great. For powersports and motorcycles, I probably would like lithium. One thing I like about AGM is that it is less vulnerable to vibrations than FLA. I mean, are you driving a car or does it sit on your bench to power something? Here we have some road among a bunch of potholes. Deep cycling, especially for summer only cars isn't a bad thing to have.
I just replaced my 10 year old battery with a Lithium battery Gr48 1100 cca 60-month warranty and only weighs 15lbs and cost $297. Seems pretty solid at 14.1 v, but I only had it two months. I'll see how it works out and update later.
