Default Quick Jack 5000TL FYI Observation

Used my QJ 5000TL for the first time the other day to do an oil change on my C7. VERY IMPRESSED with it! But one thing I noticed was that I couldn’t quite get the lifting pucks on the car “perfectly” centered on the lifting blocks of the QJ. I needed about another 3/4” of spread on the QJ lifting blocks in order to be able to do that. It still worked fine being slightly off, but required some extra time and care to get the QJ placement in an acceptable position. Would be nice to have a couple more inches of spread adjustment on the QJ blocks. I noticed another fellow Vette owner on the C5 forum ( I think his name was Missile Boy?) mentioned the same problem and offered a nice solution. He fashioned a piece of 2x6 lumber to fit on the QJ frame to give it a couple more inches of spread adjustment. Think I may give it a try. Just thought maybe our C7 folks might want to be aware of this and possibly check out that C5 poster’s solution.

I think the 5000TL is a bit longer than the 5000SLX. I have the SLX and it's perfect for the C7. The TL raises the car about 4 inches higher. I installed these pucks on my car, they are perfect with the QJ. They never need to be removed.
.
Correction: They say the TL is the same as the SLX. Not sure why it wouldn't fit.
Correction to the correction: The minimum spread on the TL is longer than the SLX.

Yeh, I think the problem I was having was I needed to get the rubber QJ blocks about an inch or so closer together than was possible. If I got one puck on the car fully centered the other one would have about a quarter to half inch off the edge of its corresponding block. I used the QJ on my Mustang as well with no difficulty at all. It has a wider spread between lift points than the C7. We’re really splitting hairs wrt the Vette. Not a really big deal. But you can’t get the pucks attached to the car perfectly centered on the blocks on the QJ. You’ll be off about a quarter inch on each side. Hope I’m making sense. Probably should have taken a few close up pictures.

I think the red jack pads might help. I have had them in for about two years. Install them, forget them.

I agree that those are nice pads and I think they have a bit larger diameter than the rubber ones. But I kinda prefer having the thicker rubber ones. I’m ok with having to remove them after each use.

The rubber ones are very unstable, the metal ones are bigger and thinner, much more stable. No messing with them. I actually got larger rubber blocks for my jack. Easy peasy!

An update…..Just discovered that Quick Jack offers an adapter for the 5000TL that will allow you to narrow the spread of the lifting blocks, so went ahead and ordered a set. About $105, but should solve the problem. Probably could have done without them but figured what the heck. Made specifically for the QJ and maybe better that than trying to fashion something myself.

If you're in the market for a QuickJack or accessories for one, this is a good time to buy. Their current 15% off sale matches what they usually do during SEMA which, in my experience, is about the best deal on one, outside the limited models sold thru Costco. Shipping is free. (Note the 5000- and 7000-series QJs have been discontinued.)

I am not affiliated with QuickJack - just passing along the sale info for anyone interested.

Has anyone just used the Quickjack rubber blocks without the puck inserted, i.e. just let the block lift directly against the frame?
