I discovered the dreaded smell in my 2019 C7. Removed the cabin air filter (which is on passenger side) and of course there are signs of mice (shredded shop rags) but no dead mice.
The smell is coming from the driver’s side right beneath the grid on this cowling. It smells worse on the outside of the car than inside thankfully, though slightly noticeable inside as well.
This cowling looks to be pretty integrated across the windshield and seems to be adhered to the windshield. My question is how involved is it to remove this piece of cowling, and once I do am I likely to find the dead mouse or is it likely further inside the ducts somewhere?
I saw another
thread where a shop quoted a member $2500 to take off the dash and find it. I’m not sure I want to get into all that, but we’ll see.
As long as you have a trim tool to pop loose the couple retainers, the rest of the job takes about 15 minutes. To make it easy to reinstall the wipers in the same place, use a Sharpie or paint pen to make an alignment mark.
@Catfish4818 pics show everything perfectly. Very simple task.
If you look close in the two pics you can see my alignment marks on each post in order to locate the wiper arms upon reassembly.
So just to finish off this thread, I removed the cowling and the dead mouse was right under the cowling on the driver side. I couldn’t believe my luck! I think that takes care of this round and I got lucky there was nothing in the ductwork. Special thanks to catfish and 96GS for the pictures.
At one point I needed to watch a video to be sure I had something right and I learned that the C7 has two dots in the windshield where the tips of the wiper blades go. It is actually a lack of shading (so a clear dot) down in the tinted part of the windshield. If you lift up your wiper blades, you will see them at the tip of the blade. That was cool to know. Thanks guys!

Glad you found the dead mouse. Follow 449er's suggestion or try other traps. Whatever you do, DON'T use poison. Poisoned mice try to find some place to curl up until they feel better. But they don't get better, they just die.
