Answer: yep, pretty much...one we think went out in trash after cleaning a counter top - the other lost two weeks later....totally unknown-therefore GONE
Wow. I thought you lost both keys at once. I was nervous when I got the C7 and discovered one key was not working. Quickly filed a claim and got another.
Whenever we buy a new car (not very often), we bite the bullet and buy a third fob immediately.
On our C7, the third fob is wrapped in aluminum foil and hidden deeply inside the car. The key is hidden someplace outside, hidden well enough that even the Tech can't find it.

I assume the aluminum foil prevents it from sending a signal. No?

Do you hide the FOB key or did you have another one made?
^^^^^
I hide the key from the fob on the outside, then wrap the fob (without key) in several layers of aluminum foil and hide it deeply inside the car.
We've done that on each of our four new Corvettes over the decades, and it has a great preventive effect- we've never needed the "Emergency" key.
Sometimes I'm a little disappointed about that, but happy.

Put your key Fob on a bright color lanyard to minimize the chance you'll lose or misplace it.
Also, keep that fob in a Faraday pouch. Both the pouch and lanyard should prevent loss.
If you need extra loss protection, put an Apple Air Tag on the faraday pouch.

Got THIS. One pink and one blue so nobody gets confused who's key it is which affects the memory settings.
And also prevent it from being used. That means you get to fumble in your pocket for the key. If I see a situation I want to get away from fast, no way do I want to fumble for the pouch, get the key out to get the door unlocked and then get to drive away.
