I have a question about OnStar and what you get with that. My biggest one, is does the remote app control over your car work if you cancel your OnStar subscription? Reading through all of the documentation on the website's and terms I cannot get a straight answer for the life of me. Well it seems some of the parts it post that the application control comes with the purchase of the car and it always will be there until they turn down 4G of course like they do with the 3G cars. But the only reason why I've been paying for OnStar for the past 3 years is for that control and convenience. And at 50 plus dollars a month, it's substantial. I do not use any of their maps they're calling features, I really don't use anything else because I have Android Auto for everything else. So just wondering if anybody out there has a straight answer if I cancel my OnStar if I will continue to be able to remote start my car through the GM app or not.
It does not. I think you can lock the doors and that's about it. I had OnStar for about a year but for the money, it wasn't worth it to me. The location and driving data are not reliably accurate. I get better location data from an air tag.
I also thought OnStar was way too expensive for what you get!
My FOB will start the car, put the top up or down (SmartTOP), put the windows up or down (Window Valet), open the trunk, and of course, lock and unlock the doors. I hope that answers your question.

I said screw it and let the OnStar lapse, and turns out you do keep all your remote start functions remote lock flashlights honk horn all that stuff on the application. The things you lose are items like GPS location of where you parked your car, the maintenance reports on your car like the mag ride reports transmission oil engine blah blah blah, all that stuff that is something was wrong you get a check engine light anyways and then you can hook up with scanner and see what's wrong. So really that's all you get for that $50 a month and the ability to push the button on your mirror to talk to somebody to send a map to your infotainment, which is way out of date to begin with. So that settled it with me not renewing my OnStar after a couple years of $50 a month. When the only function I use is the remote start for my car so I can remote start my car about 10-15 minutes before I go to get in it while I'm in the office or at home or anything so I don't get into a car that's 250° inside. So that's the only must have here in Phoenix, lol.
Honestly if they had like a $5 a month option just to get your maintenance report data which to me is really all that is really worth. I would get that but the whole OnStar thing with the mirror and the speakers and all that, none of that is needed in today's day and age. With Android Auto and Apple CarPlay you really have everything you need in your hand and then when you hook it up to your infotainment it's extended there so you don't have to be in your hand.

Thanks in advance!!
I had a subscription, and after I cancelled it, I could only schedule a service appointment, see recall & warranty information, and shop accessories. I did continue to receive my monthly diagnostic email.
