Sorry for the spam but now that the Nav system is not updatable, Im interested in using Waze or Maps on the screen. Can't find any reference to AA in any manuals in the car. I see AppleCarplay on the home screen but no AA. Doing some research, I've found my car has the IO6 RPO code so I believe that makes the "update" easier Thanks!
Yes, you can update the car to have Android auto, I did the same to my '16 in March. Early 2016s only had carplay and android auto was added later. The dealer can update the infotainment to include Android auto however you will have to pay. I believe I was charged two hours labour to get mine updated.
Just take it in and tell them you need a firmware update to enable Android Auto. Once the update is done Android Auto can be enabled under the settings in the same location the Carplay option exists.
Android Auto was a "running change" to 2016's it's as some would say a 1/2 model year feature. I had my early 2016 updated as well, even though I don't own and never will own an Android Phone. I just like updates.
Not all 2016 Vettes will be able to add Android Auto. My dealer had me bring my 2016 in to see if they could. They could and I did.
Be aware that you have to have a connected USB Cable between the phone and the car. I run the cable from the center console to my phone holder.
Not true, anyone who has the new NGI 2.5 can get the update, all 2016s come with NGI 2.5 (which includes HMI 2.0). 2014 and 2015 have NGI 2.0 which has HMI 1.0 and 1.1 (for 2014 and 2015 respectively). The older HMIs can't be updated because the CarPlay and Android Auto software was written only for HMI 2.0.
To get steering wheel controls in both you also need the 2016 Cluster SW. 2016 in terms of infotainment is the hard-line where GM finally put in a decent system, 2014 and 2015 got saddled with inferior infotainment.
Post 2016 there are some minor updates to the Cluster, but I think the HMI module once you put Android Auto on it is identical until end of C7 production.
Also you can get a wireless dongle, in another thread someone posted they use Ottocast, which seems like a good option especially the Pico variant.
I have a 2014 Corvette and for music I use USB memory stick and mine has over 100 albums !!!!!!!! Wayne
This is what I do, but I'm closer to 700 albums. It's a mirror of my phone in terms of music content. Easier to manage. But people like Android Auto/Car Play more for the updates and traffic enabled navigation. The text messaging integration is also better. Since those features are not important to me, I always stuck with the stock interfaces. But I understand the use case.

It is true if you just want Android Auto and do not want to tinker with anything else. I have a 3LT.
That is like saying I have a 2016 Roadster and I can make the windows and the top go up or down with the remote, if I have the Window Valet and the SmartTOP. Those are extras that the car did not come with.

The wireless part is added with a dongle. Not the feature, you need to have the wired feature.
