Default Targa top

The targa top on my 2014 z51 makes so much noise that I can barely talk on the phone while driving.
Should I replace it or the locking arms? Or should I do something else?

I bought a used 2014 clear targa top from a forum member for my 2017 GS. It creaked, as does the 2017 occassionally.

The best solution I've found besides the dielectric grease or rubber treatments, which helps, was from the forum.

It called for silicone tubing cut to fit over the pins (about one inch) and I have done this for a couple of years and the problem went away. I removed the OEM rubber grommets from the front pins and only use the silicone tubing, which compresses and forms a tight "bond". I originally only did this for the front pins, but now do all four... with good results. I replace the tubing (it's cheap) every time I remove the top, but that's probably not necessary.

Here's a link to the tubing I've used successfully:

Totally agree with above. In my case I used latex tubing but anything soft and tough will work. I bought this at a store near home. Worked like the charm. Had tons left over. Use a tiny bit of soapy water so the tubing slips on.

I hate to bust everyone's bubble, but I've been beyond and back with all the fix attempts to no avail. Started out with the dealer installed "upgraded" parts. Next, was o-rings and dielectric grease. After that, the rubber tubing recommended by a member.

I live in Florida and the temps are the root cause in my opinion. The issue is gone in the cooler season. The only remedy I feel is pretty solid is rubber (non-sticky) tape between the latch parts. Of course, that's not convenient because it comes out every time I remove the top.

Yeh, I replaced the strikers and pins too. The creaking came back when the temps soared >90 here.

It is indeed. Maybe my service dept. didn't perform the work but just reported they did? I have a completed work order, but that's no proof it was actually done. Might be worth replacing them myself.

Thanks

The revised pins def look different, I took mine to specialty corvette shop after buying parts online. I did mark old strikers with marker while still in car. They def got swapped

Will you please share the part info so I can compare it to my work order? I know the pins were done because they're definitely different.

My 2017 top is mostly OK using rubber o-rings (and also silicone grease) but occasionally starts to squeak. When it does I release the nearest latch momentarily and let the top adjust to the current temperature and the squeak goes away.

I too have had this issue especially when I wanted to hang my targa top using a aftermarket wall bracket.
