Default Front Grill Question

I’m looking to buy a stingray in the near future. I’ve noticed some have the chrome bar across the front grill. Others don’t. Why? Is one Z51 equipped & the other not? Please educate me.

Changed my 2016 Stingray from the stock grill to the "Z06" grill. I think it looks better!

The original have the chrome. I do have a black decal on top to cover it.
the other picture shows an aftermarket z06 style grill used to replace the original one. Those big holes in the sides are for the brake duct vent that stingrays don't have

The chrome strip across the center is on the base units and the one with the opening in the lower left are on the Z06 model. Some owners have replaced their original grill with the Z06 style while other have blacked out the chrome and other leave it as original.

The chrome strip is on the grill of our 2017 Z51.
As noted above, many people remove/cover/replace to eliminate the chrome.
I left ours in place, it reminds me of when our kids had braces on their teeth.

I believe that for 2016 and later, Stingrays would have the chrome bar blacked out by ordering this option:
[EYT] Carbon Flash Badge Package

According to AI research, starting in 2016, the package includes:
  1. Two Stingray fender emblems (Carbon Flash)
  2. Two crossed flag emblems - front and rear (Carbon Flash)
  3. Rear "Corvette" lettering (Carbon Flash)
  4. FULL Carbon Flash grille WITHOUT the chrome bar (NEW for 2016!)
Here's a reference (you can search for EYT): https://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chev...ette-stingray/

Are you sure the stingrays don't have the vents still behind the front grill? I just swapped my stingray to the z06 grille and mine already had vents in the front that lined up with the zo6 grille air inlets on both sides?

Stingrays with Z51 have the vents standard however vents can be installed on a Stingray too.

You can pick up a Z06 style grill off eBay for around $80, so you'll see a lot of Stingrays without the chrome strip

First year I had mine I hit a rabbit that ran in front of me on a highway, breaking the grill. I replaced it with a Z06 grill. It looks much better without the chrome retainer IMO.

I replaced the chrome strip grille on my 2014 with an aftermarket Z06 style grille from Extreme Online Store. Fit perfectly and made one heck of a difference in the look. Price was very good too.

Can it be replaced without removing the entire front facia?

Some people use black electrical tape to cover up the chrome strip, giving it a total black look.

No, but it's still an easy job. A 2 out of 10 at worst. And looks 10 times better.

As Monthy Python used to announce, 'And now for something completely different':

I love the chrome bar in the middle of the grille.

Now if I could add a good looking pair of additional lights (blacked out?) in those side holes i will be in... maybe I can print a mount adapter. Not a bad project as the new grill is low price to play.
