Default hatch struts

Question, with new GM struts how close to closed will they hold the hatch open?. My original 2019 Z06 stuts let the hatch fall at around 18-20 inches from closed. Other than this, they do assist in opening and holding it open. Is this normal or should they be replaced?
thanks!

The hatch should stay wide open with good struts. My 2019 GS hatch still stays wide open.

Struts are generally easy to change.

No. The closer it is to being closed the more force is applied on the struts. They're not designed to hold the hatch open a few inches.

Never tried intermediate positions - either wide open in garage or just popped open with tender cable coming out, or full closed.
