About to wrap up a wall art project for my C7 bumper. My C3 C4 and C5 bumpers were all repainted, which cost me anywhere between 3 to $400 on per bumper, depending how much paint needed to be removed. My C6 bumper was in perfect shape, so I did not need to repaint that. Would it be cheaper to paint or vinyl wrap my C7 bumper? The 3 colors I'm considering is white, silver, or a green that's similar to Lime Rock Green.
I have always wondered about how long a wrap will last and look good. Many police departments are buying all black SUVs for patrol duty. They're getting the four doors "wrapped" in white. Then they can put decals over the wrap. Cheaper than ordering special two-tone paint and when the vehicle is retired & sent to auction, they just peel off the vinyl from the doors instead of doing a repaint. In Richmond, they now order them all black and just use an extra large decal on each side with bold outline white lettering.
I suppose that a 'wrap' on a Corvette would look great for several years if the car were garaged most of the time. If it sat outside or was used as a daily driver, then it might not look all that great after just a few years. If you were going to use a C7 rear end for wall art and it were kept indoors, it might always stay looking fresh.
It used to be that wrapping a car was a good advertisement for a business vehicle - but now it seems to be a very popular fad. Perhaps it keeps your paint looking extra nice through the years and maybe your car might look 'new' underneath when you peel it off. I don't have any experience with wrapping a car, but I see them fairly frequently. BMW and Mercedes owners seem to be the most likely to do it around here. Every so often, you'll see a wrapped F-Series or Dodge Ram truck.
I am looking into spring getting my white roof wrapped with the white sides. I have PPF and parts of my 4Runner wrapped and the wrapped has held up very well. But then my vehicles are garaged kept. And my wrap has the ceramic coat already on it.
