Default Android update for 2016

Anyone have access to the USB files needed to install android auto on 2016? The dealership did part of the install but couldn't get the USB files to download to the radio.

My Dealership, which was very knowledgeable about the Magnetic Ride Upgrade and the Triple Tranny Flush back in 2020, told me to bring my 2016 into Service to determine if Android Auto could be downloaded. Early model 2016 might not be able to download it.

Fortunately, mine could. Jonathan, my Service Writer, told me they downloaded it directly from GM. He is at Simi Valley Chevrolet, in California. He may be able to give you some information. The two people i know that had it successfully downloaded did it at the Dealership.

I was thinking it could also be the USB port. I just want to try to rule out everything before I consider replacing the radio.

When I updated to AA, I was able to use the older part number USB port. So you can rule the USB port out.

Dealers get the software through the GM system that downloads it and the uploads it to the car modules via a tech tool that attaches to the OBD2 port.

I suggest you call Mr. Anthony Brush @ MVI.com to get his opinion. Perhaps he can do a trade-in to deflect some of the cost. Any new HMI module has to be programed to you VIN.

The dealership completed the OBD2 port part. The USB port didn't recognized the USB drive when it was plugged into the ports under the armrest.

Could be the drive, port or the file. Mine was completed without any fuss.

I'd ask to get the USB files downloaded again to a different USB and try again.

Ensure that the USB drive is formatted Fat32. The Fat32 format provides excellent compatibility with most devices.
