As an aviator, one becomes very aware of atmospheric conditions which your average car guy ignores. Early 747s could not take off during a mid summer's day in Miami. In a naturally aspirated piston aircraft, you can watch your manifold pressure drop with altitude gain. You have to set your Coleman window in your altimeter to get actual elevation which can vary by 2000ft at the same place.
You can't take off in Albuquerque NM in the summer with 13" Hg in a Beech Baron. You can't perform some aerobatic maneuvers in the summer because the air is too thin.
Race cars have pitot tubes in testing because there can be a big difference in airspeed and ground speed. Rory Byrnes would tell Micheal Schumacher to go for poll when a cloud drifted over the track which would add HP and downforce. As we speak, a Ferrari LaFerrari awaits ideal conditions at the Ring.
Dynos have pressure temp and humidity sensors which seriously effect readings.
We will see mid 11s during the winter with stock C7s and 122 Vt.

Great reminders sir. I live in dry humid Idaho where many flyers lose their lives because of thinning air in the mountains in summer temps. Our local drag strip has notoriously high DA's for its elevation.

Gonna need an extra 50 ft/lb to haul that pig down the strip

Of course the car will be above 4700rpm's after the 1-2 shift all the way down the track so don't expect that to help much
