Default What should I do? C7 or modded c6

I talked to a dealership yesterday. I can get a 3LT, fully loaded, not z51 for $69,950

OR I can buy a very used up C6 with a bunch of miles for $30,000 and throw some money at it and go for 800+ horsepower.

I've never driven a corvette at all, but what would you do in this situation? I'm thinking 800 horsepower would be fun, but the new corvette also looks like a ton of fun, I just dont know how fast 450 horsepower is going to be... That's not that much power. If I spend basically 70k on a car I dont think I'll want to spend money in mods any time soon. Opinions?

You're crazy to spend 70k and NOT get the z51 package. I didn't think that was possible. Get a 1LT and wait a couple of months, then supercharge it.

The reasoning behind that is as far as I'm aware the Z51 package is only $2,800. I dont care about the aero or the wheels, and I'm pretty sure (maybe I'm wrong) all the Z51 upgrades can be easily added after purchase.

My reason for buying now without the Z51 is that it's the only one for miles and I dont want to be put on a year long wait list. If I bought the C7 I'd mod it eventually, but if I got a c6 I'd probably wind up ordering all the mods even before I purchased the car.

I've driven power, just never a corvette so I'm not sure what would be the best thing to do. Are there any superchargers for the C7 now? Someone at the dealer told me the in the C7 was the LS3, but the engine didnt look much like an Ls3, and now I'm doing researching and finding it's actually the LT1 engine

The z51 package includes wheels brakes and a spoiler which can be added through the aftermarket. However it also includes the dry sump oiling for the engine, the electronic rear differential, and is necessary in order to get the additional cost magnetic shocks. I don't think those options can be added through the aftermarket.

I personally would lean towards the c7 because it has better "bones". Adding power over the coming years will probably be pretty easy.

c7.

Unless you want a race car/weekend toy only. c7 is just a better driver, better interior, better ride, better stereo, better seats, no tunnel heat, etc. You can add power later easy enough.

I have a supercharged / methanol c6 z51 vert with 575whp. Unless you live in an area without cops, driveways, potholes, kids, elderly folk, etc and you're driving skills are so honed that you can apply that power through corners I'd get the C7 z51 hands down!
But then if all you want to do is go straight then get an old c5 with slicks and 800hp. Likely to see them out there for $20-$30K (?).

800 hp fun? Hello……… That power is lethal in a vette or any other car for that matter. Anyone that thinks they can safely utilize 800hp in any situation other than hammering down a straight in 5th gear at mid revs without experience is in for a surprise. Imagine finding yourself mid corner in 3rd gear, spinning north of 3,500rpm and you decide to exit hard. Stick to the 450hp. Get a lot of track time. Then reconsider

I got thrown when you originally said you didn't know what 450 felt like

Yeah I was afraid it would come off that way. I just meant I hardly remember what that power feels like

I own a 08 z51 and just got back from Ron Fellows performance driving school where we were running c7s on track for three days. Id take the c7 just based on the e-diff, new tc/ah systems, rev match and gorgeous interior. New tach is awesome, plus so many new ways to geek out with cabin tech.

Tire temps, lap timer, lateral g meter, adjustable steering response ect. Much easier to drive fast on the track than my car, and I have potenza re11s.

Your intended use of the car should determine the more suitable car. Are you going cross country in it, or racing it quarter mile or road track?

C7 easy. If I didn't have such a sentimental attachment for my FRC, I'd be moving up to one too. Well, I still will get one, it'll just take me 2-3 years to save up for new.

If you are considering a well used C6, then why on earth get a loaded 3LT in a C7?

You can shave 15k off the price of the car with all of your apparent options selected and still have a way better interior than a C6.

That 15k will pay for a blower almost twice over once they become available, and it looks like the output is going to be in the 650hp (crank) range very easily and reliably.
