So I just finished my first track day. 3 sessions, 20 minutes each. First 2 runs, not overally aggressive. Last run, car was fine until my final lap and I could feel the brake pedal going soft.

I drive the car on the streets so it's not a pure track car. Which pad would be best for daily use, low dust, and no noise? And what pad combo would be best for a couple track days a year? I don't want to hear squealing every time I get on them but I'd like some really good initial bite and can hold up to heavy braking.

What model is the car? For street use the Carbotech 1521 pad all the way quiet low dust 100% non-corrosive. For track pads need model, track you run and tires for track?

The great thing about Carbotech is all their compounds are compatible with each other so. when going from the 1521 to the XP series pads all you have to do is swap pads and go no re-bedding no cleaning of the rotors just swap pads and go.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

I got a 2014 z51 and running the stock Michelin tires.

No issue once I break them in? Swapping pads in and out? What about the rotors, will they get damaged by swapping back n forth?

No issue once they are bedded or you can get them pre bed. Your rotors will not get damaged from swapping pads they will have increase wear from track pads.

For track pads I would use XP12 front CT1001 and XP10 rear CT1718.

Carbotech™ XP12™
Another highly successful XP™ series compound with an excellent initial bite, torque and fade resistance over and above the XP10™ compound. XP12™ has temperature range of 250°F to 1850°F+ (121°C to 1010°C+). The XP12™ has that excellent Carbotech™ release and modulation that has made all other Carbotech™ compounds so successful. The XP12™ is more rotor aggressive than XP10™, but compared to the competition the XP12™ is still very rotor friendly. XP12™ is NOT recommended for use as a daily driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.

Carbotech™ XP10™
When Carbotech™ unleashed the XP10™ to the general public it immediately gathered multiple regional, divisional, and national championships. The XP10™ has a very strong initial bite with a coefficient of friction and rotor friendliness unmatched in the industry. Fade resistance is in excess of 1475°F (801°C). XP10™ still maintains the highly praised release, excellent modulation and rotor friendliness that have made all Carbotech™ compounds so successful. Carbotech™ XP10™ is not recommended as a daily-driven street pad due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise.

Why not use the XP10 on the front's also? If it's more friendly on the rotors and still made for track usage, why are the 12's recommended for the front's opposed to the 10's?

Thanks

I always suggest one step down in the back because most of the braking is done in the front. If you feel 10 is better for you because of wear than I would run XP8 in the rear. The car is heavy and fast and the brakes get HOT so the 12 has a higher tem rating than the 10 but obviously is harder on rotors than the 10.

OK so 10 upfront, 8 in rear, that should still give me better stopping power than the stock Z51 pads? Better initial bite and won't fade as quick? I wasn't super hard on the brakes during my run's on Tuesday, but by the 3rd session towards the end I could feel the pedal starting to go soft. I'd love to be able to brake harder without worrying about overheating the pads. Also don't want to destroy the rotors because I do drive the car to work on nice days and go for cruises. So having a dedicated track setup that won't destroy my rotors is what I'm looking for.

Stock pads are not even in the same league as the XP10. The 10 has plenty initial bite and modulation plus its good to 1500 degrees.

Carbotech™ XP8™

A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range of 200°F-1250°F+ (93°C to 676°C+). Carbotech™ XP8™ is the first of our racing compounds. Good initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance and very rotor friendly. Perfect for track day use with any tire and can still be driven safely to and from the track. Carbotech™ does NOT recommended XP8™ as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotech™ XP8™ is a great compound on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers.
