Can someone tell me what this tape is for? It sure looks like heck under the hood and it looks like a first grader put it on.
Anyone have any ideas to make this look better?

It's technically for heat-shielding, but sadly it looks like aluminized duct tape.
On some of the cars, it was black instead of silver. Mine is half silver, half black. The silver tape is neatly done, though. Not so on some others. Here's mine:
