The valves controlled by engine sound management are the two at the ends of the mufflers and those will NOT close if engine sound management is disabled as far as I am aware. The ones before the mufflers are exclusively for V4 mode and those are still active when engine sound management is disabled. Thus the extreme difference in sound when ECO mode engages with engine sound management disabled.

On my C7 Z51, they close at times despite Engine Sound Management being turned OFF. If I'm not mistaken, there are some other threads about this phenomenon.
