Default How does the Emergency brake system function mechanically

I was hoping someone could explain how the emergency brake system works.

I looked and did not see a dedicated caliper so is it a drum on the inside of the rotor.

The hill assist seems like it might use some sort of line lock. Maybe part of the abs system.

Is the noise I here an actuator if so what is it pushing.

I am trying to eliminate the manual parking brake on another car I have and the aftermarket doesn't really offer anything that could be used. I have found electrically actuated calipers but they require a computer to operate.

I have found another system that is just a linear actuator that pulls on the existing cable.

I am currently thinking a line lock might be the easiest using a linear actuator to move a valve. Operation would be to hold the brakes, actuate the system and it would hold the existing calipers. I would have a safety release in case the line lock failed.

Thanks for the help in advance

The system is very similar to the C6 ie mini drum with mini shoes.

Of course the difference is the cable is pulled my an electric actuator on the C7.

Thanks

It does sound like a linear actuator. Somehow I need to find a lift to get a look so i can copy it.

There is no "too far" in a complete answer.

Default This should be a sticky!

This is great information. I don't know that I will ever attempt repairs on this car, but the background info is fascinating.

This should be made into a sticky of some sort.

Thanks Theta!
