As a new C7 owner I am trying to get accustomed to the higher coolant and oil temps. I would be interested in hearing from other owners in the warmer climates what you are experiencing...
As was pointed out in another thread, the fans duty cycle must be adjusted down in the tune to take advantage of a 160 'stat. Any change to the tune will void the drivetrain warranty if GM so chooses.
The 220 degree coolant temp you see on the analog gauge really is 210 because the lettering placement makes it look like 220. You need to find the digital read out under 'tour' mode 'info' menu (I think). Mine reads 208 most of the time.
I'm keeping the stock 'stat because I want to keep the stock tune and GM drive train warranty. I installed ARH headers, Halltech CAI, and MGW shifter so for the street and Hill Country drives, I'm good.

All of those modifications will change the AFR's of the car, the computer may adapt close to what it needs to be, but it won't be optimized. I am having my car tuned and we have done data logging for the tune on the street. A reputable tuner knows what they are doing and the logs tell the story of what the car is doing. Mine is getting dialed in and I would contest I would rather have a tune that is dialed in for the car than drive with mods that aren't dialed in. The chances of issues arising on a stage 1 tune are slim and none if your using a tuner you know is good.

If you think a tune is the only thing that can potentially void your powertrain warranty but you are going to install headers, intake, and shifter you have quite a bit to learn....ANY of those things can give you warranty issues if the dealer and/or the GM rep decides they are the or part of the cause of failure should something go wrong.
Same thing with a tune, should something go wrong, they can blame the tune. Or the headers. Or the intake. They can blame any change to the car at all. If your transmission starts shifting funny or your clutch wears funny....it's your shifters fault.
I was a factory rep back in the day. I denied warranty claims every day....but I also approved them. It's all a case by case basis. Don't fool yourself into thinking you can do all kinds of mods but no tune and be ok. Not to mention its not too smart to increase the airflow without proper fueling. Boom.
Yeah my analog doesnt work at all. It is 30 degrees high and stops at 220 so it is worthless. GM wont fix because I have mods eventhough I have pics showing its been that way since I got it.
Mine cruises 205 to 210 coolant (outside temp 80 degrees)
Oil stays pretty much even with coolant.
driving spiritually coolant has hit 245 degrees (from what I seen)
Oil maybe 280 degrees (hard to tell exact number in track mod)
Dewitt radiator on hold because with a bigger radiator the duck needs to be cut and made to match up with hood.
Ron Davis Radiators - I need to call in 2 weeks they still working on theirs.
160 degree thermostat. I called SLP they do not have one in the works.
Called Lingenfelter and they are still testing theirs. Be a little bit longer.
there's substantial thread about the gauge. it's a dummy gauge, like a dummy light. it works as designed. don't look at it, look at your Touring Display/Performance Tab. that's all you can do. GM isn't going to fix the gauge just like they aren't going to change the exhaust tips to 5 because someone doesn't like 4.
I can't believe how many people struggle through life by simply resisting reality. there are things you can change and things you can't. there are also things worth changing and things that aren't. your time is limited. use your thoughts and moments wisely.
Still in the learning stage, but, with respect to engine temps, the C7 seems to behave differently than any car I've owned for a long time.
Cannot remember another car where the oil temps are equal to or greater than the coolant temps during regular cruising/driving. Also, the greater rpm's, the higher the coolant temps go...exact opposite of other vettes I've owned (including my C6 Callaway). Am I being too ****??

as long as they always stay in the proper range it's all good.
