Default Engine Covers removal?

I am a little stuck and don't want to break anything.
(1) how do I remove the zip tie fixtures that hold the wire bundle to the
plenum. They expand after inserted into the hole. Do I just cut them and buy new ones from Chevy ?? I have "searched " without success.

(2) I have removed the retainer clip that holds the steel line near the driver side near the firewall. It looks like it is just a pull off. It rotates
freely and moves up and down slightly. I cannot see any other clamping
method using a mirror looking up from the engine side.
Do I just pull ??

Thanks for your help

The fuel line uses a special tool to get it to release. It is a ring that slips over the small tube and then you push the ring up into the cap and that releases the fingers in the cap and the fuel line will slip off. To reinstall, just push back on and it'll re-lock.

I just pulled with slow even pressure and wiggled a bit. It does take quite a bit of strength without a tool though. They all came out without damage. As for #2, I didn't mess with that as I didn't have lower covers.

Here is mine completed:

Any parts store. They are fuel line tools and they come usually as a set. They can be plastic or metal.

Hang on and I'll take a picture and post it.

The small end is pushed up into the cap. The large ring is to grip the tool while you push it into the cap, while it's in, pull off the cap from the line. Have a rag handy, fuel can come out of the line and make a mess.

No help on the zip tie. I haven't dug into that part of the engine yet.

Sorry,

I've seen other guys comment on this. They just cut them and replaced with off the shelf zip ties. If you're OCD, I'm sure GM has them..

I bought the fuel line tool and the disconnection is done.
Yes, I agree that I could fashion a support using off the shelf
zip ties except the drivers side back one is an elevated part.
I might have to do something special with that. I am going to the dealer
tomorrow to see what they can get. A friend says he has used panel removal tools or needle nose pliers.

1. pull harder. they pop out.

2. why do you want to remove the silver hose? you don't need to in order to remove the engine covers, which is the title of this thread.

x2 on this.

I tried my trim tools to no avail. I just yanked harder...

However, I would HIGHLY recommend disconnecting the plugs to all the coils first. The xmas tree clips release abruptly and you could damage the wires into plugs if still attached given the minimal slack.

Fortunately the subsequent installation/removals of these are much easier. I've probably done mine ~5 times with my intake manifold swaps. They still hold plenty well, but pull out easily.

Each is held on by 2 torx bolts. They are easily visible. The driver side is much easier to remove than the passenger side due to clearance with other components.

(1) I have arthritis hand so I cannot pull very hard. I'll try tools first and report back.

(2) I needed more clearance from the fuel line to take out the lower
cover insulator panel.
