Default Snow Tires

Hey guys I plan to DD a C7 non-Z51 in NY and plan to get winter tires. The only ones I saw on tirerack were the standard 18/245 and 19/285 tires. What size would you guys recommend? I was always told that skinnier tires were the way to go for snow tires and 285s definitely are not skinny. Thank you.

Are you going to be swapping tires on your oem wheels, or are you going to buy a second set of wheels? Personally, I'd see if your front wheels fit on the rear of the car. If they do, buy a set of 4 front 18x8.5s. This way you can get a narrow tire front and rear. However, you'll have to go with a taller sidewall in the rear.

If the fronts fit on the rear, what I would do is this.

4 new OEM 18x8.5 front wheels.
245/40/18 snow tires front.
245/45/18 snow tires rear.

A member with a C6 was able to get away with something similar for his snow tire setup.

I plan to buy a 2nd set of wheels. I would like to get 18s all around. Do you think 245 is the narrowest I can go? Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

If you can get the correct wheels to fit the car the Blizzak LM-32 235/40/18 for the front (25.4 in diameter) and 245/45/18 for the rear (26.7 in diameter) would just about match the tire diameters for the stock tires.

The Blizzaks are great in snow/ice/slush. I had them on several cars. When I ran them on my AWD Tahoe the vehicle was pretty much invincible in the winters of upstate NY. Put the cruise on 65 and just go through it all. Only issue was blowing snow when visibility slowed us down.

Thank you Bill. Would 18x8.5 wheels work? I found wheels that are Bolt Pattern 5x4.75 inch, Offset +56mm, Size 18x8.5 I like black 5 spoke basic wheels.

Those size tires will fit on 18x8.5s, but make sure those wheels will clear your calipers. Offset doesn't make as much of a difference as spoke design. You have to make sure the spokes won't hit the caliper.

I guess the only way to really do that is to look at the calipers? I don't have my C7 yet but I plan to purchase it in the next few weeks. I saw basic 5 spoke designs on some C7 Vettes so I assume they would fit but I will have to make sure. Thank you Irv.

Any idea if any of these will fit those 235/245 blizzaks that Bill recommended?

Fit with the calipers that is.

Has anyone tried putting the front 18x8.5 on the rear? I was thinking of getting 4 of these Z51 replicas in 18x8.5 if they fit - http://www.ebay.com/itm/191280766175?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
The auction is for 2 18s and 2 19s so I would have to find out if I could get 4 18s
