Default Converter or no converter

Let's way pros and cons! No not talking a 4500 stall either but a 3000 to 3200. Thanks

Real life... 3600-4000 for a quick street car that performs on the street... And track. I would choose the 4k

Converter technology has came a long ways since what most people think of when they think of a big converter. Our car that went 9.99 had a 4500rpm converter in it and i drove it to the track (1 hour drive) we made passes, and i drove it home. It drove great.

With the factory converter stalling to about 2500rpm, so a 3000 or 3200 is a very small change. Personally, if you ask me, i wouldnt put anything less than a 3500 in it. Especially in a centrifugal supercharger car. Because boost is linear in centrifugal setups, the cars often feel lazy down low. With a larger converter you take alot of that laziness out because when you step on the gas, it flashes to a higher RPM building boost quicker.

Also we are doing a 3200 in this twin turbo car right now and going back to the track sometime soon, so you will get a good idea how much a small converter is worth. We will be posting videos of the results.

Please dont hesitate to call if you have any questions.

Any primers available to familiarize ones self with what a converter is, what it takes to install them, pro's and con's? How is this different then "pulleying down"?

Also who offers converter solutions for the C7?

the term "Torque Converter" was not invoked in prior posts...only "Converter" both are generic terms...some elements of my question were specific to the C7

Sorry I asked

What will 3500 do on the street? Does it keep car from going below 3500 rpms or only when I am pounding on it?

It all depends on how loose the converter is. Mine is a 3400 for the street but will stretch to 38-3900 on the NOS.

N/A, TT, and centri's especially do well with a higher stall because of the torque band. PD blowers with torque on tap are more dependent on traction. Shockingly in the 4500lb CTS V world, ALL of the 9 second Vs are running the stock converter unless they have a 4L Trans swap with TTs and a Trans brake.

We use only circle D converters and have one going into a supercharged C7 along with one of our cams in a few weeks. I agree with lmr that converters have come a long way and a 3500+ stall doesn't feel all loose and terrible driving like they did back in the day.

Why Circle D over a Yank?

They have proven to always perform in our eyes and their customer service is second to none. All our builds here setting records in auto cars are running their converters. Not saying others are not available that are good, just this is the company I stand behind 100% and only sell them.
