Default Oil change question

Hey all,
Anticipating first oil change and have a simple question for anybody that has done this. I have a 14 Z51, so it carries 9.8 qts of oil. My drain pan will not hold that much oil. My question is when you change oil can you drain oil from one drain plug then empty the pan then drain the other?

Thanks
Stosh

Yes, there is a substantial amount of oil held by each plug. The one time I changed mine I was surprised by this. I figured one would have most of it and the other would have just a small amount. Seemed to have a lot in each. That said, I'd be careful if your drain pan is less than 8 quarts...

Great info, I had hoped that was the case so I can change it like I did in my c6. Jack up one side of car, slide drain pan under, remove drain plug let oil drain. Because pan is pretty shallow I let the side of the car down while it drains to make sure all oil is drained. then jack up change filter and done.

If you put in more than 9.5, you're putting in too much.

(9.5 seems about right)

you better get a bigger pan. I've swapped out my oil several times going to and from the track and I did not see too much difference between the two plugs. I pulled the front plug first then the side plug........I'd say 1 qt from the second plug.

But you could always reinstall the plug while the oil is draining if you are up to capacity.

I've changed oil for 45 years and I'll be dammed........ I've never changed oil w/o spilling some somewhere during the process!!!!!!!! Me bad.

HA, yes I've been changing oil for a long time too and I have always made a mess, sometimes small, sometimes big. LOL Sorta like painting I can cover quite a large area with a very small amount oil/paint. BTW does anyone know the part number for the oil filter wrench for the vette. The kind that you put a ratchet in the end?
