What are the two baffles in back of the mufflers coming from the engine? What are they called and what do they do? Can they be disconnected or does it matter?

Butterfly Vales. They open to bypass the mufflers for a better flow and sound. They can be opened and closed per the driver mode selector. In C6's, then can be turned on and off via a Fuse. You can get a "Mild to Wild" switch to do this manually. Either way, on the C6's (Z06 or C6 with NPP) they will open after 3500rpm or 3000 rpm in Comp Mode.
