Default AFM actuators

How are AFM actuators attached to the valves/exhaust pipes. Screws, bolts, etc. Thanks

If you are talking about the Exhaust butterfly valves that close when AFM is actuated-They are NOT removable with simply cutting them off---However when you unplug the electrical pigtails that open/close them---You will get a permanent trouble code---So far there is NO software available that can delete these codes----Trust me I tried---I think the issue is mute however as I believe there is NO HP gains by removing these butterflys anyway
If you are talking about DELETING the AFM so it does not ever run in 4 cyl. mode that is something else----Simply keeping the valves form opening/closing won't delete the AFM
Wish it was that easy----AFM is an extremely complicated system---You can PREVENT it from coming on with a simple tune---But the AFM uses special lifters-added solenoids--electronics---you can keep them from functioning and that will keep the butterflies OPEN all the time---But to totally delete the system id very pricey--( not needed unless you are going to install a bigger cam)

Thanks for the definitive answer, but my question was much simpler. How hard is it to remove AFM actuators and then reinstall them on aftermarket exhaust?

Some aftermarket cat -backs come with new actuators already installed
Those that don't --you would have to leave the old ones in place and the cat back system would have to be from the "actuator back" so you may have to custom fit it----As I said before you can't simply cut them off as when they are unplugged there is no software that I know of that can permanently delete the codes-- My guess someone soon will come up with some "simulators " that will allow you to delete them
My personal opinion ?? Don't worry about the actuators---there is such a minimal HP increase in removing them that it's not worth the concern or effort

Fred,

Not difficult at all - it's just a few bolts on each side. Will take you all of 10 minutes max.

I understand what you're saying, and you're quite right. However, let me illustrate what I was trying to say by showing you the B&B C7 Bullet system.

Note the AFM valve bolt holes. The mounting plate is, indeed, welded, but I believe he was originally asking because he would be swapping exhausts (presumably to something like this).
